View Full Version : RVSkin useless so far...
JoshuaJames 09-11-2005, 04:58 PM I've been running this for a few days now and thus far it's absolutely useless.
It keeps saying that the WHM Acesss Key is not found. I have done everything reported on the website, I even changed the WHM Access Key and re-did it, I have meticulously checked the file containing the key for whitespace. Nothing.
So this part of the script simply doesn't work, which is a shame. What is even more weird is that in the area of the Admin where you can click WHM Access Key Settings, it says 'WHM Access Key is found'. Then not two lines later it says 'WHM Access Key Not Found'....
E-mailing support just got me two general responses to do what I've already done. That's not helpful.
Then the templating area of the site, when you click it, it says, 'No Permission to Access RVCustom' or something along that lines. I've run the updates, I've checked the permissions, everything is fine.
So not only can you NOT change skins, you can't create your own... which was the whole idea in the first place. I am very dissapointing in this program since so many people are always talking about it.
I am even more dissapointed that there seems to be no money back gurantee, I am still looking though. No point me buying a product that simply doesn't work.

JJ, not exactly sure why it's not working correctly as we have never had an issue like this. pairote is usually very helpfull and if you can't get it going with his instructions, send him your info and he will even go as far as to correct it himself.

I recently reported a bug on an issue similar to this (check here (http://forums.rvskin.com/index.php?showtopic=820&st=0&#entry3709)), which he is aware and working on it.

pairote has always worked quickly to solve any outstanding bugs/issues and is constantly monitoring his support forums. We've been extremely happy with the support and software (not to mention our customers; shared/resellers) to date.
--happy rvSkin customer!
JoshuaJames 09-11-2005, 09:10 PM I've corresponded with him a little bit but he keeps feeding me the same thing from the FAQ. I can't seem to get him to realize that there is something else wrong. I've tried the stuff in the FAQ, in the forums, and a few of my own troubleshooting test... nothing.
It's good that the templating system will be fixed in the next update. Hopefully it will be out soon. The only reason I purchased it is so I can create my own CPanel template, I have the icons and everything ready to go, so it's kind of useless if that doesn't work :[
It's been about 24 hours since I e-mailed him last. I'm going on vacation for 3 days, hopefully he has responded by the time I get back, that or RVSkin updates and fixes itself. I'm not interested in any aspect of it except for creating my own themes so at this point it's kind of useless :[
Also I posted here because their forums seem kind of low on traffic so I figured I may get better help here.
Thanks for the reply though, I won't write them off just yet..
bithost(NET) 09-11-2005, 10:57 PM RVSkins works great for us. No problems at all -- never had an issue with the Access Key.
Why don't you sent pairote your root login details and ask him to look at it?
Also, since pairote is giving you advice from the FAQ, this suggests that he was not given sufficient background on what exactly you have/have not done to try to fix the issue. Go back and document exactly what you have all done so he knows what to suggest and what not to suggest.
Telling the developers exactly what was done, in what order, and exactly what the different screens said when you did them, helps the software developer to trouble-shoot the issue properly and helps him to know where to look.
:) Bailey
JoshuaJames 09-11-2005, 11:08 PM Well considering I am a developer, I did just that :]
Don't worry, everything has been covered. I described to him exactly what I have done. Including steps on the FAQ, the Support Forum, and some of my own testing. He knows what has been done. Though he simply told me to do what I already did :\ I was hoping for a little more insight within the response, hopefully when he gets around to sending a second response he'll give me some more info and I can know where to go next.
I know my way around my server so after doing a little bit of testing I'm keen to believe the version of his script that I have simply doesn't work with the CPanel version that I have. I guess I'll just wait till the next update and see what he's got then.
I notice someone else on the board has the exact same problem and the troubleshooting advice doesn't work for him either. Script error probably..
What do you guys use RVSkin for, do you have a custom control panel design?
bithost(NET) 09-11-2005, 11:33 PM Well that's cool... be patient with pairote then, really, he's a great guy and has always been super-helpful with us in the past too.
Have you tried downgrading your cPanel to Release or Stable, or upgrading it to Current? We are running RVSkin on today's "Current" tree and have no problems. Try going up or down the version chain to see if that helps, maybe.
What we use RVSkin for -- I like having our company icon in the skin; the amount of data shown about their account; and especially the links to the billing/support system and our own FAQs, from right in the control panel. The news feature is really nice. It makes cPanel more central and encompassing, so the client doesn't have to remember so many URLs and logins. They can just go to their cPanel and go anywhere they need to go.
So essentially it just as another format for cPanel, with extra links and info. I don't like "Mrs. Nick" at the top of the current cPanel design :emlaugh: but I like the organization of Bluelagoon. We also have a lot of clients on dial-up... so we have put our clients on the lightblue design for speed & organization.
The extent of templating for us has been just changing the icons. (And we do that at the server level, not by using the new templating system.) We'll be tweaking the CSS to use different colors here shortly. Otherwise -- it's fine for us right now, as-is.
:D Bailey
rvskin 09-14-2005, 02:11 AM I believe that I have fixed your issue. If not please email me the IP and root password, I will take a look. Posting the issue here doesn't help as we don't check this forum regularly.
WireNine 09-14-2005, 02:43 AM We have been using RVSkin for the past 1 year, in my opinion it's a great add-on for cPanel users!
The languages help our international customers, I am just very pleased with their product, they have done an outstanding job!
AlexF 09-14-2005, 03:36 PM JJ, we use rvSkin basically for the same reasons as bithost(NET). We were very anxious to get the template system going but truthfully have not had enough time to play/work on it so we did not know about the bug until just the other day (when we decided to start producing some templates).
RvSkin has a plethora of enhancements over cPanel' skin (and those of its competitors) and the users just love it; that's good enough for me.
thomase 09-14-2005, 05:19 PM I think I had this problem...I can't remeber how I fixed it though, sorry!
rvskin 09-15-2005, 12:23 AM On JoshuaJames server, there are missing 2 library files;ld-linux.so.2 and libm.so.6 in /lib. I have fixed by copying files from /home/*****/lib/ to /lib. ***** is one of his user in the same server.
