Im intrested in signing up for a merchant account, can anyone tell me when you are billed for gateway fee's, discover setup fee's,etc.

Are you billed upon setup or the following month ? (Say my account is approved 9/12 i am billed 10/12 for previous month ?)

If there is any setup fee, most providers bill this upfront upon account approval.

If there are no setup costs, then usually billings are done one month in arrears. So for 09/05 monthly fees, you would be debited in 10/05 and so forth.

If your merchant provider is charging a Discover setup fee (not all processors do anymore), then that is usually billed during the first full month after your Discover merchant account # is activated.

You will also want to keep in mind that if there is any Monthly Minimum on your account, you need to add in that cost into the monthly amount that will be deducted.

You'll also want to make sure you understand all transaction fees - whether monthly or transactional - and also know what terms & conditions (and costs) for any early termination fee.

Processors typically deduct the discount rate fee out of each transaction and then bill you at the end of the month for transaction fees and other fees such as customer service fees and gateway fees.
