Well my father got a fake paypal scam saying

"This email confirms that you have paid MICROBAZAR $175.85 USD using PayPal. "

On the bottom of it it says "If you haven't authorized this charge, click the link below to cancel the payment and get a full refund:

*Link*"

Then goes on and on MICROBAZAR I believe is a chines site (says to install chines in script or something like that). Then if you do sales@microbazaar.com you get three lists of web sites that saying it is a scam.

Just wondering what I should do does paypal take it serious if I report it? Any other place I should report it?

Thanks

PayPal asks for reports of suspicious emails (http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_security-center-outside):

Protect yourself from fraudulent emails Emails that seem to be from a well-known company can put you at risk. Forward suspicious emails to: spoof@paypal.com

Let's face it, the average internet user out there is very vulnerable to such scam emails. It must be easy pickings for these scumbags. The scammers are getting harder and harder to spot. :eek3:

I got one such email the other day. Cloaked url, with what looked like a legit paypal domain. But it was some wierd subdomain with paypal in there, so even to me, it looked legit, at first glance.

That is the sad thing they did not even do that good of a job of it. The from on the top was "jjfvz@fronttraining.com" not even a paypal.

Hi Ya'll,

They keep on making more stupid criminals. Atleast hide it better. Do forward that e-mail to spoof@paypal.com. They do an excellant job of taking care of things.

i learn my lesson and i stick to some WHTer's advice. KILL all email send from paypal, ebay, your bank or CC. if it's important, they will call you or to be on the safe side. Never click on the link in the email. alway take the extra step, go to the real URL and check.

Remember, an official PayPal email will use your first and last name when addressing you. If you have not authorized a charge, DO NOT click any links in the email. Send the email to spoof@paypal.com and change your passwords on your paypal account immediately.

I would never click a link in a paypal email (even when they send you emails to confirm payments and all) always go to www.paypal.com :)

Also my firewall will protect me from a lot of these scams, But ill be honest 3 years ago i would have been fooled.

I can't stop all emails from them because I need to be notified for any sales or payments. I accept the Paypal's advise, always Type "www.paypal.com" yourself on your browser and you are safe enough.

I don't like or trust paypal. Its not safe in my opinion but I have to use it.

In what sense is it not safe? Phishing scams happen with all forms of banking, credit etc. They can only hold your hand so much. The problem is undereducated consumers, which isnt realy anyones fault. As far as chargebacks go, paypal is no different then any merchant account, as far as hosting and intangible goods go. Except they dont charge a 30 dollar fee for a chargeback=P I wish a more branded payment provider was out there with paypals features though.
