I am so not impressed with these people. I signed up March 30th for their $10 Canadian acct after reading some pretty good comments here about them. I signed up for a years worth of hosting. Signup went great, hosting information came asap.

The first thing I despised was their control panel, I believe it is Plesk and I used that once at datahosts.net (another stay away from host). I was looking to password protect some directories, so I asked support about it. I finally got an email about 3 days and another email later (was told that he (only one support person??) had been in the hospital and was given an apology) saying they had installed new control panel software, where to find it and to use that. It didn't work; I got a 403 upon trying to log in. So I emailed them back telling them what had happened. I also opened another ticket for cgi problems, only some of my scripts were working and theirs (ones automatcialy installed on their server for you to run and get paths etc) weren't working, no 500 errors but 403 errors.

Another 2-3 days passes (I even called one day and was told no support was in and that they would call me as soon as they got in - didn't!) and finally an email back apologizing but the new software hadn't been put on my server over confusion over their move and now it was and to try again - same bloody error.

Meanwhile I figured out why my cgi wasn't working - they had an htaccess file in there and once deleted everything worked fine. I then figured out how to use htaccess to password protect on my own. So I emailed them told them what was wrong with the cgi and not to worry about passwording I figured it out on my own.

Another 2 days later I get another email apologizing again and that my account was credited for a free month for lack of support in the last 7-9 days and as well told that the new control panel should now work they checked it themselves - once again it didn't! So I emailed back saying thank you and that the panel still didn't work. I have heard nothing back and that was the weekend.

So yesterday 10am my site goes down, ftp is down, email is down, etc, etc. I put in a support ticket at about noon. Got the auto reply with an addendum stating they were in the midst of a move and that only tickets would be replied to, phones were on voice mail and that support would be a little slower than normal.

Well heck, I don't know what their normal support time window is. I do know that it has been 1.5 days that my site has been down with no bloody response from them.

I'm out of there, I will be looking for a new host this weekend. They will definitely be getting charged back from my CC as I am not going to wait for support/billing to get around to getting back to me. I should have stayed with addr.com...I had a wonderful year with them, but I left because of exchange reasons (cdn to us). I may go back to them, I just don't like their only 2 pop emails and catch alls - I prefer more real emails and hate catchalls.

So stay away from Binary Blocks - one crapola host.

Trish,

Sorry to hear about your experience with them, I haven't heard any static about them but looking into how new they are, it seems as if maybe they had a rough time in the move. When we had a move about 4 months ago (60% of our servers) and then another about a month ago (only corp offices) it took a lot of planning and while we had some internal glitches, nothing reported from customers. The thing that sticks out in your post is that I get the impression there is only 1 support tech there, a problem for any consumer.

It's my only opinion but if your host doesn't have easy means of communication (toll-free line, 24/7 support, etc) then your doomed unless your the type of client that doesn't need ANY hand holding or tickets because you know it all ... of course those are the ones that us hosts love ;)!

Just my 2¢.

I rarely need support on my hosting. I definitely don't know it all, but generally unless my site goes down I normally don't need a thing.

I'm going to look into insiderhosting.com and a few more, the heck with us to cdn exchange, lmao.

The one thing, their site isn't down, mine is. If they are having problems because of the move we should have been told that there could be problems etc. I'm a patient person, I've given them over 2 weeks to get it together.

Thank you for your reply :)
