Its said that its safer to use different password for the admin and root account.
So i do for quite some time on several raqs
Now i'm told by a tech at Tera-Byte that they need to be the same, because the controlpanel must be able to perfom tasks on root level ????
Does anyone heard of this before, or can tell me more about it ?
I never noticed any problems with this ?

i don't know about that. i'm not on tera-byte, but, my admin and root password have been different for the last 7 or 8 months and i haven't had any problems....

The scripts that are called have been given root access, so the password is not needed by the control panel. I don't think it is even passed to the control panel.

I never had ti the same, never have heard that, seems rather odd. I think they might have been confused.

Well i never noticed any problems myself, btw here's the actual quote from Mike Parie at TB:
the admin and root password must be the same on the raq as the web based
interface uses the admin account to manage the server. It requires root access
to do things correctly like add users and update the postgresql database etc,
if you use the web interface at all it is highly recommended to keep the
passwords the same.
They usually know what they are talking about .

As I said(and I checked), the web-based interface has all the scripts running with root permissions. Therefore they do NOT need the root password provided to preform root-access commands. Hence you can change the root and admin passes at once through the web interface with only the admin pass.

no need to have both the same. im on TBs raq, no problem whatsoever. as mentioned before, the scripts all run as root anyway...
