I have looked around and have not seen a disscussion on this so I thought I would go ahead and pop the question. What methods of advertising in your local area work best for your hosting business?

Personally I go to computer trade shows around my area and hand out flyers. We even post on community bulletin boards, supermarkets anywhere you can legally post an ad basically.. At first I had alot of doubts about this being any good but after a while I notice that it works. I get atleast 2 calls a week from people who saw a local ad and called because they wanted to work with "someone in the area" .. I know it makes no sense but it people seems to make people feel more comfortable. But as to your question.. Yes it does work..

I wish I had a dime with how many times I tell this same thing to people looking for new paths to advertising. We do a lot of the same as above and the majority of people really like that they found someone in town. :)

Used to give free evening networking classes, where a lot of social networking is going on, too.

Also, flyers on telephone poles and well researched cold calls.

We advertise on local radio stations through Washington, Idaho, and Oregon.

We've also placed ads in the local newspaper.

With the radio station side of things, we have advertised on various stations, but we also host some of the other radio networks to where we have contracts for free advertising.

Thanks

Hello,

I usually give ads in local computer magazines. There are dozens around, but I usually give in the one which is read mostly by internet users. This way I assure myself that my ad is read mostly by people who know internet stuff really well.

This ad was'nt really too successful for me as local people here usually go for low cost hosting regardless of poor support and less features....

Anyways, I got a few calls from local people saying that if I can offer them free hosting and etc....

Overall, it was a bad experience.

We have BAD :( experiences with advertising, a lot of spam, non paying new customers.

Se recently we decided to stop advertising and dedicate our business to business-to-business marked.
