Since my current host didn't provide pop mail service. What should I do if I want to use another server to provide pop mail for my domain? (I would like to stay on my current web server and just use another server for mail delivery purpose)

So far, I was thinking something like this..
- signup for a pop mail service provider(or a web host providing pop mail service?)
- add user and password in the control panel
- add a MX record to the domain's DNS
- configure their outlook express for incoming/outgoing mail server.

pls correct me if I'm wrong and any suggestion are welcome!

and now.. some questions
- what other info I need to change the MX record? is it IP only?
- what other step I've missed?
- where can I find a good(stable+reliable) host to provider pop mail service?
- can the (pop mail)user themself change their password themself(like thru a control panel?)
- how much would it cost for this kind of services?

thank you so much for answering.. !!!
... and, sorry for my english

Yes, you can stay with your current host and use another server for mail. But not many hosts offer email-only package, you'd better order a hosting package with unlimited email feature, costs around $10/month.

You will need to contact you current host and ask them to add A record for mail.yourdomain.com (or pop.yourdomain.com, whatever you like) and smtp.yourdomain.com then add MX record to point to mail.yourdomain.com. Or if you want to do them yourself sign up for free DNS service, ZoneEdit for example.

what if I just want to use my own domain name to receive the mail?(eg. mydomain.com). so, I should skip adding the A record step, right?

I've never used them, but a good friend of mine loves them.

Because mail.yourdomain.com will handle all emails sent to you (at yourdomain.com) so it needs an IP to know where to send them to.
