Post your opinion No we will have .com names still, but it will be fewer then we have now. Reason is we will always have people who do not want the names that they picked before. Or people forget to pay, ect. Then we have the names that people will never want. tphpaul 09-06-2005, 07:11 PM I wonder what other tld's they will have also Torith 09-06-2005, 07:19 PM Originally posted by tphpaul I wonder what other tld's they will have also Not sure they will most likely have all kinda. From stupid ones to good ones. Though the main ones you want are .com I would say. Post your opinion Well, I can only relay a simple fact: this is what folks said 5 years ago! :P And look where we are today! tphpaul 09-06-2005, 10:48 PM your right! Priyanka 09-06-2005, 11:18 PM At the moment there are 56,328,922 domains available . Any idea out of them how many are .com WolfPrecision 09-07-2005, 01:46 AM I think .coms will be around and plentiful Masud 09-07-2005, 08:37 AM There was a very interesting thread about this topic few months ago so search around and see if you can find that. dmaven 09-08-2005, 01:47 PM There are many that drop every day. We are a long time away from having no .com left Acroplex 09-08-2005, 04:31 PM This-long-stupid-domain---will-still-be-available-in5years.com crislem 09-08-2005, 06:04 PM There are so many ways to combine words, letters and numbers, I find it hard to believe that we will run out of .com options. People might not find what they want, true, but that happens even now. :) VanHost 09-10-2005, 03:42 AM How many characters can a domain name be? If I remember correctly, it can be 256 characters long. Mind you, I'm tired, but I believe that leaves 1 LARGE AMOUNT of possibilities for domains. I highly doubt that all the combinations will ever be registered, simply because nobody wants them. Personally, I like .net a lot. To me, it just says "Internet". I think people will also find new ways to use certain domain extensions. For example, look at .tv - this is a ccTLD and yet people are using it for television. Ironically enough, the country that this TLD was created for has a very poor population and probably not very many TV's :) IconPacks 09-10-2005, 08:01 AM With the shear amount of money, advertising, promotion and branding that's gone into .com's I find it very hard to believe it will be replaced with something "better" any time soon. So yes, I think .com's are hear to say and the future of them looks as good as it always has. In terms of running out of names, I think that may become an issue at some point, well the GOOD names, but like any market there will always be supply and demand and it will become more of a real estate market for the good names rather than just registering brand new ones. tphpaul 09-12-2005, 11:12 PM You got a good point BrookeM 09-13-2005, 10:22 AM Originally posted by VanHost How many characters can a domain name be? If I remember correctly, it can be 256 characters long. It varies by TLD, but for .COM and .NET the maximum number of characters is 67, which in reality is 63 plus extension. I think it used to be 255, but that was quite some time ago. I wonder if anyone ever actually registered a 255 character domain... tphpaul 09-13-2005, 05:55 PM I'm curious if some one actually has that would be interesting to find out greatdomainz 09-13-2005, 09:42 PM Originally posted by Priyanka At the moment there are 56,328,922 domains available .
