View Full Version : Recommend A Good CMS
Jennifer Hunts 09-06-2005, 04:15 PM Hello,
Sorry for asking so many questions. Can anybody please recommend a good content management system similiar to the ones powering
http://www.big-boys.com/
http://www.dumpalink.com/
I'm definately willing to pay for something high end. Also, I would like a script that has true support directly from the developers.
Any ideas?
Dan L 09-06-2005, 04:18 PM You can post in the advertising forums to hire someone to code you something custom.
Are there any CMS's you're considering / definitely don't want to use off the bat?

I'm really looking for something already programmed and coded. I've been looking at the ones listed at HotScripts http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Content_Management/index.html Maybe someone is already using one that they would recommend.
DataDork 09-06-2005, 04:41 PM I would recommend http://www.wordpress.org for personal domains and http://www.pmachine.com for any professional ventures. ExpressionEngine is nothing short of amazing when it comes to flexibility. Good luck in your search!
derek.bodner 09-06-2005, 04:46 PM Mambo (http://www.mamboserver.com/) might be something to check out.
ThatScriptGuy 09-06-2005, 06:54 PM I used to be a big fan of e107, but lately I'm just not liking how things are turning out with it.
Jennifer Hunts 09-06-2005, 07:52 PM Hello,
Anybody have an idea what www.dumpalink.com is running? I want to run an identical site with videos, so I'm looking for a good CMS for that.
Dan L 09-06-2005, 08:10 PM It looks like a custom job.

It's customized.
I would suggest postNUKE. Many templates available and it's easy to customize it.

My main thing I am looking for is a CMS system just like DumpALink.com and Big-Boys.com where I can publish videos to my site.

I ran a site similar to eBaums, Big-Boys, etc. It's not that hard to do with postNUKE.
I had to manually include screenshots for flash and movies. For pictures, there was a Gallery module that created thumnails. You can assign categories in postNuke like the sites above.
I contacted http://gallery.menalto.com/ (Gallery) and searched their forums for help with creating thumnails with videos but didn't find it.
The upload will help you upload and manage video files w/ links etc. and you can publish them on the 'homepage.'
Other than that, I don't know what else you're trying to automate.
Hope this helps!
Kerry Jones 09-06-2005, 08:43 PM I highly recommend mambo especially with its professional appearance.

Actually, I would recommend trying Joomla! (http://www.joomla.org) when it's released sometime this month. All the developers from Mambo were kinda "forced" out, so they took the codebase and are now starting their own CMS called Joomla!. Mambo, as far as I know, hasn't found any developers yet. Mambo is an excellent piece of software and I've been using it for over a year now and I'll be upgrading to Joomla when it comes out because it'll be written by the same Mambo-developers. Many third-party developers are also following the Joomla codebase and will drop support for Mambo.
Jennifer Hunts 09-07-2005, 12:03 AM Okay, I realized a big feature that I left out...
I need a CMS that will allow me to post videos, games...etc. Something that will make the page look like this...
http://www.dumpalink.com/media/1126020732
Notice the video preview screen, the comment and download link...
I need something similiar to that. I'm not sure which route to take...
Tranix 09-07-2005, 01:37 AM lol you're kept saying GOOD CMS and yet all the CMS out there are good to use. It just depends on the user's coding skills. I have been using phpnuke, postnuke, xoops, typo3 and mambo which i'm using for my business site :) You're gonna like it ;)
