Hi, folks -

I'm at a complete loss here and I'm hoping someone can help out -

I've been having a bizarre problem with retrieving e-mail from my host's (HostRocket) servers, which are with VDI and are running Cpanel 3.5 (or 3.6, I can't remember). Brendan at HostRocket has been quite helpful in trying to help me find exactly where the problem is, but hasn't been able to duplicate the problem. Ack!

Here's the skinny:

(I'm using Microsoft Entourage, btw, which is basically Microsoft Outlook Express)

- I have all of my e-mail accounts in my e-mail client set up to leave a copy of any messages on the server, and then to delete it from the server if I delete it from my Inbox. For some reason this doesn't work with the HostRocket VDI account. If I delete the Inbox copy, nothing happens to the copy on the server.

- Because of this syncing problem, every time I retrieve e-mail from this account, ALL of the messages on the server are downloaded - not just the new ones.

- If there are no messages to retrieve from the server, I get the error message, "The POP server returned an unexpected reply to a command Entourage issued", and at the bottom of the error window, "Error: -16999"

All of my other accounts at other servers work fine, and Brendan tested my account using the PC version of OE
and it worked fine, too.

I should also mention that I'm controlling the DNS for this account via EasyDNS, but I have my settings the same as Brendan has on their nameservers, so I don't THINK that could be the problem.

Can anyone help with this bizarre problem?

thanks,
Neil

I haven't experienced that problem. Sorry. It sounds like it's specific to Entourage. Have you tried using any other mail client to see if you can duplicate the problem?
