Hi!

Just initiated the process to transfer a .COM domain from Directi to Namecheap.

I understand that a Authorisation Email will be sent to the Administrative Contact of the domain to Authorise the Transfer.

How long does it take for the Email to reach the Domain Admin?

Its a few hours now since the domain was accepted by namecheap for transfer but, the Admin of the concerned domain is yet to receive the email.

Thanks in Advance.

Regards.

Darshan.

You should have recieved an almost immediate confirmation from the winning registrar (NameCheap). The losing registrar may take 1-2 days before replying.

Darshan, sometimes the entire process takes 2 to 7 days. So have patience!

Thanks for the replies guys. I received the email & the authorisation has been done.

Namecheap says it'll take about 5 days for the domain to appear in my A/c.

Am running out of patience now :(

I know its only 4 days but, the status hasn't changed from the current one - Domain transfer initiated and awaiting approval...

Does Directi really take so much time to approve a transfer?

Also, can i change the nameservers to point to me during the transfer is in progress cause the client's site is not pulled down by the earlier host.

Thanks.

I don't think they are any slower than anyone else.

From your email it sounds like you have confirmation from Namecheap but not Directi? Have you or the client had any confirmation emails from Directi?

It is dangerous to switch hosts, registrars and nameservers all at the same time. I usually do it one step at a time.
You may still be able to change nameservers at the losing regsistar but I think yo may be locked out of changes during the registry transfer process.

You receive 2 confirmation/authorisation emails? I thought that you receive only 1.

My client had recd a authorisation email & he followed the procedure in it to approve the transfer on the same day when I initiated the transfer.

I know its dangerous. Actually our plan was to transfer the domain over to me first & when that is done, move his hosting to me. But, due to some issues, he had to pull down the site & so we need to rush the things.

The confirmation is normally just sent to the registrant and admin contacts of the domain name. Only one needs to be approved

You are right. Just checked up with the client. He had received an email from the losing registrar as well.

No action was required to be taken in the second email.

Lets C when it completes.

Its now 6 days since I initiated the transfer. It still says - Domain transfer initiated and awaiting approval...

The second email had a deadline to CANCEL the transfer upto 9 Sept.

Now, its 10 Sept. When do you guys expect the domain to be transferred over to me?

Is there anyway I can change nameservers as of now coz we had to pull down the site.

Namecheap hasn't still replied to my queries. :(

This is getting a lot more frustrating that what I had expected.

if the name is in the process of being transferred you should not be able to make changes via the losing registrar

Darshan, the verification email from gaining registrar is more important! Sometimes the transfer approval link get expire after certain amount of time so we have to approve it fast!

Glad to know that the domain has been successfully transfered!

OK.

The transfer took about 6 days to complete & now its taking 7+ hours to propagate after I changed the nameservers. ;)

Nameserver propagation should not take that long Darshan! My com / net domains takes just few mins with Registerfly

Nearly 20+ hours now. Still no progress. Contacted my provider. He says contact Domain Registrar.

Registrar says contact your Host.

DNSReport & Whois reports show that the new Nameservers are in place but, still when I ping the domain it pings the OLD IP & not the NEW IP. :(

1) try clearing your cache
2) see if you can reach the new site by accessing thru a proxy like www.the-cloak.com or http://anonymouse.org/

1) Done but still no change. Also am pinging the site & getting OLD IP.
2) Site is accessible as I have kept the site on both OLD & NEW Server. So, site is showing up & its from the old server.
