View Full Version : Would you host this site?
CoreBlue-Mike 09-03-2005, 01:43 AM There's a site I'm hosting that doesn't contain the 'best' content. It's an online game about being a pimp and 'managing' 'hoes'. turflords.com
They aren't breaking any of my TOS or AUP, but I'm thinking I should maybe 'ask' them to find a new host. So, as the subject states, would you host it?
yes i would, but i would setup some secret nameservers for them to use, and keep the fact that your company is hiding it as secret as possible.
xAngel 09-03-2005, 01:48 AM It's just a game and if they arent breaking any rules... why not just let them stay?
Alternitivly (spelling) you could sell the client here at WHT and atleast get a little pocket money ;)
CoreBlue-Mike 09-03-2005, 01:53 AM Thanks mikeylove and xAngel- I'm just not sure if I, as I work in building my company, want to be associated with it. Thanks for the suggestion of just using different nameservers -don't know why I didn't think of that!
tree-host 09-03-2005, 02:59 AM You could also setup 2 extra IP's for their name servers and set the reverse DNS on them so its almost compleatly hidden who you are.
Persoanlyl i dont see the problem, but i do see the association thing, its a tricky one to call.
Kerry Jones 09-03-2005, 03:19 AM is it like this game? http://www.pimpwar.com if so, I say let them stay.
Stan Marsh 09-03-2005, 07:24 AM Common, they are fun! If they don't break your TOS/AUP and any other law, just let them stay and enjoy what they're doing! I in your place would think even about placing a banner at the starting page of my site saying something like "proud to host turflords.com". ;)
:pimp:
frankiee 09-03-2005, 12:52 PM Well, if they're not breaking any rules or terms, I don't see any reason why you would suggest a new host.

Rman2003 09-03-2005, 03:50 PM It really depends on who your target market is. Are you marketing to the adolecent male who spends 5-10 hours a day online? Or are you marketing to small businesses, and the more professional niche?
Sites like (www.************.com) bring in quite a bit of traffic that can be used to your advantage.
[Edit --> ]
LOL, I guess it's ***'ed out due to too many people using their stupid affiliate links.
Well, regardless, it brings in a lot of traffic.

Corey Bryant 09-03-2005, 03:50 PM If you have to ask MHarness about the site, apparently it is causing you some problems. I would ask them to change hosting companies.
We can give you advice that yes it is OK to host it but this is your company and it is what you want to do.
VintageHost 09-03-2005, 04:50 PM Unless it is in your TOS that you can terminate a customer without them actually breaking the TOS/AUP, then it is at your discretion. Otherwise, you cannot, and should not, terminate this customer, as they have truely done nothing wrong (based upon your post).
imago-allan 09-03-2005, 11:10 PM Hello. I can see that you maybe uncomfortable hosting it since you are most likely catering to a different target audience and you don't want to get associated with them in any way.
That's a tough decision to be made. If a client does not break any TOS/AUP there is no reason for the account to be terminated.
You may want to transfer the account to another willing host out here. But, make sure that your client is properly informed about it. Even this solution is not so "cool." Probably set up a different hosting server with an anonymous IP or something?
Take care.
:)
mythologen 09-05-2005, 05:41 PM Just my opinion, but I wouldn't worry about it. It isn't gonna get back to your clients, and if it does they aren't going to care. Most clients do not judge a web host by its users(as long as material is non-porn, etc).
In the mean time, if the game becomes popular you will gain traffic, which is a good thing. They might also need to upgrade plans, etc.
ozzie123 09-06-2005, 05:18 AM Hey... the game is fun! I'd love to host it on my server :-)
