The EPP code is a code for domains that use EPP. Any .ORG, .INFO, .BIZ (among others) name uses EPP. The EPP code is also referred to as an "auth code."

The code is created at the same time the domain is registered. The only time you really need this code is if you decide to transfer the domain away to another registrar (you have to enter it in your transfer confirmation to show that you are authorized to approve the transfer request).

Your domain, however, is a .NET and .COM/.NET have yet to migrate to EPP, so your domain does not have an EPP code. There have been rumors that .COM/.NET will migrate to EPP eventually (no idea when), so it's good to be aware of what it is, even if the information doesn't apply to your name now.

Wow!!! What if I don't have that code for ANY of my numerous domains? I thought when the transfer is initiated, the email is sent to administrative account of that domain with the link to visit. At least it was like this the last time I've tried to transfer .org

Has anything changed since then?

The .ORG registry migrated to EPP when PIR took it over. That was about two years ago.

I remember because it was when we started reselling domains in the first place, and while I was still only learning the transfer process myself I had to help all these people who were trying to transfer in .ORG domains when some had auth codes, but others didn't quite have them yet. Oh yeah, those were good times. :D

Verisign will be moving the .com and .net registries over to EPP early next year
