Tallon 04-09-2002, 01:09 AM That's sad :( This sort of thing is happening way too often.
I suggest that you rename pixel.gif and update your site. AND put something funny as pixel.gif ;) and see what happens on their site :D
Golden opportunity to take revenge :D :stickout

Better yet, he could use .htaccess to replace pixel.gif with a funny image only when the image is hotlinked... that way he doesnt have to change his design to stop using pixel.gif...
Man, that is rediculous, actually linking to your image...

You would think that if someone went through all of the trouble to steal your site that they would at least have the decency to save you some bandwidth and steal your images, too ;) ... that's just shameless!
NumLock 04-09-2002, 09:03 AM those lazy retards
Alan - Vox 04-09-2002, 09:06 AM Use the .htaccess thing, put up "Visit Mchost.com now!"
MattF 04-09-2002, 09:09 AM Use the .htaccess thing, put up "Visit Mchost.com now!"
Not much point really if the image height and width settings are only 1x1
Alan - Vox 04-09-2002, 09:45 AM Single pixel gifs are usually used to fill up areas, and not just to be 1x1 in size
phptalk 04-09-2002, 09:53 AM One more site design theft issue.
Worse than spam....
dragonhawk 04-09-2002, 10:07 AM I just can't help but laugh at their stupidity! If I were to copy a site (big IF - I design my own sites and graphics), I'd rename everything and make sure that I don't link to anyone's pages!
GOSH! They're just sooooo dumb!!
derek.bodner 04-09-2002, 10:25 AM lol, I don't know whether to be upset, or to laugh at their stupidity. God, theives are bad, lazy thieves are even worse.
T_E_O 04-09-2002, 10:40 AM I just had a live chat with one of their operators.
Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Pickaweb Support'
Pickaweb Support: Hello, How Can I help you?
you: hi.. are you familiar with www.mchost.com ? :)
Pickaweb Support: hello
Pickaweb Support: how can i help you?
you: I think I might be able yo help you. Have a look at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43978
you: I think you might want to solve this asap, as it is very bad for your reputation
Pickaweb Support: let me check
Pickaweb Support: that website is not even live yet
Pickaweb Support: one of our internet mums is working on it
you: which website do you mean ?
you: i see.
you: even though I would suggest you to take it offline, at least temporarily.
you: people are not very fond of "borrowing" designs...
Pickaweb Support: how did you find the website, we have not even added it to the search engines, it is just a project
you: I found it through that forum. I am not the starter of the thread, just somebody who happens to pass by.
Pickaweb Support: ok
Pickaweb Support: as i said that is just a project not live
Pickaweb Support: thank you for letting us know
you: yes. I know that now, but most other people who read that forum do not, so it is bad for your reputation. and of course, I would suggest to change the design entirely as I think people will be watching it closely.
you: ok. no problem.
Pickaweb Support: thanks bye
you: bye
Hope they'll change it sometime soon, because it's not good for one's reputation :D
123456 04-09-2002, 11:15 AM My name is Pilar.
I am working on http://www.24x7livesupport.co.uk/
I have been contacted today by someone showing me the postings on the hosting forum.
This is just a project which is not even live & has not yet been submitted to the search engines.
I am a mother working from home & was just putting a few ideas together to present my ideas to some colleagues.
I am surprised that the website could actually be found.
It was a prototype which had a life span of 1 month max.
I will remove that code from the home page if it is causing you problems.
I do apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Best regards
Pilar Torres

Yea, I like the "Tailor Made Web Sites" claim on her Internet Mums site. For someone that claims to offer "web design", this is quite lame.
gdavid 04-09-2002, 12:06 PM Its bad when people copy your site, just try to make things really original but HARD to copy, can be tricky..
Blackman 04-09-2002, 06:54 PM I too felt angy they did that but I am pleased that made a formal apology, they gained back a lot more of my respect because of that.
TheException 04-16-2002, 03:43 PM They are trying to offer their services to people now...
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=321037#post321037
Anyone want to jump up and buy from them?
one more reason to go with bobcares.com...
tony.messer 04-16-2002, 05:40 PM Dear TheException,
We are indeed offering our services to hosting companies, for sales & support services.
Regarding initial designs we understand that one of our freelance designers made a faux-pas and that person aswell as being quite distraught by the whole situation has been accordingly dealt with - bearing in mind that we have an obligation to give people the benefit of the doubt when they make such indiscretions.
My God!
Someone should learn how to ignore :D
tony.messer 04-16-2002, 06:02 PM Thanks, nice to see a smile
BrianF 04-16-2002, 06:58 PM Yeah, I'd really trust a company that doesn't know proper English capitalization and grammar rules...right...
No one is perfect, but when you're dealing with another company's clients, you should act professional as it reflects them.

Definately.
And Tony.messer, in regards to your post. I wouldn't care so much if it were a one time thing, but you are still following poor, borderline on illegal business practices. SPAM is not well liked by people here... I know you know what I am talking about, fishface has recieved unsolicited email from you.
You should take a course in proper internet marketing, business communications, English, and maybe law.
Come back refined and educated, then maybe people will approve of your business and order from you.
P.S. Masood, I am not sure what you meant by your post, can you please clarify it for me? I would appreciate it, thanks.
tony.messer 04-16-2002, 08:50 PM Thank you for your concern about my education.
Remember it's i before e except after c (recieved)
BrianF 04-16-2002, 08:54 PM Tony, good catch, but remember: The Exception isn't trying to sell his product to users here, I'm sure that if he was he would have spell checked ;-)
tony.messer 04-16-2002, 09:04 PM We are trying to get feedback on the services we offer in an informal way. That is all.
We accept criticism, that is part of business - we think it is a great idea which will benefit small hosting companies in particular.

Very true, I am sure I make spelling mistakes on here all the time... But if I were selling something or asking for people to evaluate my business I would be watching my spelling.
I also pay less attention to it when I am unhappy with something in the thread. I really don't think spelling is of the most importance, as long as the post is clear and everything can be easily understood.
I do care, however, about things such as SPAM and plagiarism... I am sorry but I am never going to let you live that down I don't think...

Now I have to explain  hmm... you know that someone stole a design, not only design but the HTML code as well, then sent SPAM and still when asked to clarify, ignoring... and telling us how important customer support is !!
I hope you get it now :stickout

Thank you.. sorry about that... For some reason I was thinking you were telling me to ignore something... I was a little confused.
ooh, dinner is ready, smells good! :)
tony.messer 04-16-2002, 09:25 PM Ok, please compare both websites & tell me if you think it is a copy.
I think they are totally different.

I would think by now you would go to great lengths to make sure we cannot find any similarties with other sites. The point is you were stealing graphics from other sites. It was noticeable in their logs, so it had to have been accessed many times.
I am not trying to say you are copying things now. You just have a history, thats all.

Rebel 04-16-2002, 11:49 PM Must be run by 13 year old who doesn't know how to design.
Wait, nevermind...I know some 13 year olds who CAN design their own stuff which isn't half bad. I hope this company curls up and dies a painful death.
gnorthey00 04-16-2002, 11:54 PM Here's a fix for all the hotlinkers out there:
Create a large image file, or if you're concerned about disk, a CGI that will constantly sends random 1's and 0's until it reaches a certain filesize or user disconnects. Make the CGI accessible as a gif/jpg/png image.
Set up the HTACCCESS file to send hotlinkers to fetch your image or script that will suck up thir bandwidth. Once people get fed up with waiting for pages/portions of pages to load while huge file (say 2 MB) downloads. 2 MB should be enough even to make cable modem users annoyed, and definitely offend some dial-up users.
Only problem has got to be the cost you your end for bandwidth.
VoxKeysGtr 04-17-2002, 12:31 AM Ths image is the same one used on Splashhost's web site...the blonde help desk operator...
At least they're equal opportunity borrowers...they're not just picking on McHost. ;)

Hmmm ok, that sounds good then. I guess you did make the right choice there... However to make it more clear to other people looking you may want to make the link go directly to that picture...
psalicrup 04-22-2002, 09:46 AM I think that 24x7livesupport.co.uk is a great service. I do not think that any other company out there gives you live chat support for your clients. And also if you are a startup company you can talk with them and they wont charge you the regular fee.
I don't think that the website looks nothing like www.mchost.com so i dont know what its all about. I mean the image they copied was a spacer. Anyway I still think its a great service. :)
Oh and no i do not work for them ;)
TheException 04-22-2002, 12:39 PM Thats good to hear psalicrup.
I haven't seen a company out there that will offer what a small time reseller needs yet.
Good Luck 24x7livesupport, sounds like you have a prosperous future ahead.
