I got different results showing on those programs - which is more reliable?


AWStats or Webalizer?

I think both are equally accurate...

The difference would be when webalizer stats are not updated (there is usually a cron that runs daily to update webstats) and if you update awstats using update now button available with the stats.

It has a different of 500 uniques per day..

Does the difference show even for the completely updated stats for eg a couple of day old stats ?

Also have you tried updating the stats manually ?

I usually use AWStats; compared to Webalizer, it "seems" to be a bit more accurate, and with cPanel sometimes allowing Update Now; its even better ;)

Webalizer is no longer actively developed. Awstats is.

On a cPanel server, AWStats is usually more accurate. It does depend however on what types of files you have running on your account and whether they are owned by your account username or 'nobody'.

Generally though -- AWStats.

awstats is much better in all respects.

Both are accurate , now difference you see in stats may be because of factor these works.

For example awstats doesnt include data while a request result goes into error say 404, 302,301. Wheras webalizer do.

Well make sure I am talking latest version of these two softwares.

That depends on your configuration

yes that is right , I was talking about default configuration . This generally is a reason of difference.

AWStats subtracts bots' visits from the stats. However, default settings of webalizer does not do that. Due to this behavior, visitors difference could be in 100s, because Yahoo (Inktomi) and MSN bots always remains busy in fetching web content, but Google bot only visits after a week.

It's funny I've always considered webalizer the better of the two but all the sudden my host removed it so I've had to start using awstats and now I think it's alot better!
