Hi everyone.....

JE here, I live in NYC, and I will be entering the Hosting Biz. I am going to be pouring everything I have into this. I just would like some feedback as to, because i'm just starting out, and I will be "bankrupting" myself to go into this business.... How long do you think it will take me to see a ROP?

I am not expecting overnight success, but I am thinking anywhere in excess of a year or so....am I off by a HUGE margin?

How long did it take you to see a ROP?

i looks at it like this: I have to start from the bottom to get to the top, and if it means sacraficing some personal expenses to do this, then...i'm willing to take that chance.

 I love life, don't you?

Well I think that the answer depends on many factors. First off, so you don't bankrupt yourself, start off with a reseller account. Typically, these don't cost a lot to start up with providing you picked a good reseller like
www.venturesonline.com
www.splashhost.com
www.mchost.com
www.voxtreme.com
as it would be very cost effective for you. You then need to advertise your hosting services and depending on where you advertise that can also cost a lot of money. But the biggest way to make your company successfull is to provide great support and uptime to your clients, and in turn they will refer friends family, anyone they can think of. Also a good way to jumpstart your hosting business is to visit your local business and give them a letter head with your pricing blah blah blah, your local chamber of commerce, etc..

It takes a long time to make back the money and see a good profit. Depending on if you buy a server or lease and have setup fees, plus the merchant account if you get one and the advertising costs and the list goes on. The best thing to do and which is was I also did get a reseller account to see how you can do and get that going. I also learned my way around the command line alot doing this and once I was sure that I had things moving good I did a conversion to a dedicated server. I would highly suggest spending 30.00 on a reseller account at first rather than 400.00 or whatever on a server and setup and just sitting with it for a while.. Its definatly not something that happens overnight.. Best of luck..
