I personally like plesk, but I am curious as to what others think is the best of the control panels.

I personally like Cpanel. I'm currently using Ensim, but it seems a little awkard. I've never used Plesk before so I cant comment on it.

Also despite what anyone esle says I also liked the Cobalt panel :)

I prefer CPanel, though a control panel that you didn't list, H-Sphere, seems to be gaining a lot of populatiry. Their licensing is a bit pricey if you host a lot of people, though.

It was a tough choice between Plesk and Ensim but I eventually chose Ensim in the end. I felt it was easier to manage.

Plesk does not have some useful things such as Cron , a Really secure shell (I do not mean it is not ssh), and some other features.

CPanel is very rich but has some security problems. Something else I have seen by experience. Server uptime on WHM/CPanel servers is very lower than others. Specially if it hosts more than 200-300 domains it needs scheduled restarts before it became unstable.

I am going to experince Ensim this time. I know 3 hosting companies using it and all of them are known for their high uptime. Remarkablehosting, Webreseller.net and everydayinternetsolutions (changed to h-sphere tonight )

Cpanel is far much better than ensim...dont compare cpanel with ensim....ensim is useless if you compare with cpanel...there is one more nice control panel hostgui which is going to be launched by the end of April 2002 and something similar like cpanel and also supports jsp support. And the nice feature is it has got only one time setup cost which is around $570 where as cpanel has got $75/mon as license as of now.... I'll be updating you soon if I get anythng else...I worked with many of the control panels like

- Alabanza's DSM
- Hosting Controller
- Plesk
- Ensim
- Hostgui demo
- Webmin
- Sphera hosting controller etc...

And it seems hostgui is also good but they are going to launch that by the end of April 2002....and it might be having some bugs....so for time being Cpanel is good..

WHY NOT? I like CPanel too, but you have to give some valid reasons why CPanel is better than the others, more than just saying you've had experience with all of them. If you want to add some credibility to that, tell us "why" CPanel is better.

From what I read here, CPanel is not as "secure" as WebAppliance. If that's true, I'd prefer WebAppliance because security is very important in the hosting business.

And Plesk doesn't appear to have a file mgr. Also, I never could figure out what those ON/OFF buttons were for in their demo.

HSphere doesn't have a file mgr either. I want a file mgr for many tasks rather than having to FTP.

Chris

Care to expand on this? I would take Ensim hands down. Far more stable and far more secure.

How can something be good that hasn't even been relesed yet? Makes no sense. Don't believe the hype - ask Sphera users.

Plesk - fairly solid, but a terrible interface and you cannot customize it. Also, it scales terribly when you start to expand.

Cpanel - nice interface but a little hackish. I was a little apprehensive when it started installing various things like compat22 and various other things. The documentation sucks too.

Ensim - no idea

H-Sphere - nice solid package, but the price is an issue. With most clients I've worked with (fairly large, cashflow positive shops) the cost has bumped the cost of acquisition per customer above what they'd like, and with the yearly service fees the total cost of ownership is a little high.

I thought my newbie customers will have problem with h-sphere as it seems very complicated in comparison to Pleask, Cpanel and even ensim.

It's reseller panle is too comlicated too. (I think I will not use moost of them).

If Pleask was a little more beautiful and a skin similar to CPanel, HostGUI or even Ensim it would be a great panel. Plesk needs a better skin, Cron Jobs, a better and scure shell and some other additions to become the best available panel.

You've obviously tried the freebsd version which is very betaish :). Anyways compat22 and compat3x is installed for frontpage support. All cpanel binaries are 4.x native.

Users like cPanel, I like to please the users.

cPanel is our choice too, the skin ability allows everyone to add their own flavor to their systems and cPanel back-end handles much more then just a pretty panel. Very stable now.

CPanel of course :)

CPanel has some good features compared to ensim and plesk (stats, real subdomains etc), also very easy to use compared to plesk.... ensim is ok to use....

I guess CPanel wins then...

lol@iamdave. I guess Cpanel does win. Thanks for all of those opinions.
BTW, I could live with Ensim's WebPliance, but Plesk powers me off on some of its features. While we're all giving our opinions, here's another... for a control panel, I think "Plesk" is an awful name. It just doesn't fit. :bawling:

CPanel gets my vote ever day of the week...hands down!!

Plesk is very good but once you try CPanel, you'll find it hard to use anything other than CPanel. I have no experience with Ensim so no comments for or against it.

That's my two cents for what its worth!

We used CPanel 3 a while ago. But when we moved to Plesk (for security and stability reason), all of our clients love it! Although the features are not as many as CPanel, Plesk really offers great security and is a neat and professional looking control panel (I guess it's a matter of one's preference).

Also, what we like about Plesk is the pricing, the stability and the support. We have experienced several generation of Plesk and have been extremely satisfied with it (never had problems since the first installation) and the support team is wonderful.

Yup... overall it has been good to me, but I may be shooting some suggestions your way once I'm done with everything. :)
