I saw that this particular 15 year-old kid in Canada has a valuable item in an online game that I would like to buy from him. He said he would sell it to me for the price that I offered, but said (understandably) "send me the $ and you'll get the item".

How do I protect myself against him taking the money and not turning over the item to me once he receives the dough? Obviously I shouldn't send cash or a money order... should I try to PayPal it to him? Would that let me charge it back if I didn't get the item?

I would talk to his parents. Maybe sure it is OK to send the money and make sure it is OK for him to be selling this item. (it could belong to his younger brother :) )

I would not use Paypal because he is 15 years old and he cannot legally have a Paypal account. I doubt you would have a leg to stand on if something happened.
