Hi.

I have a server at Dialtone and am considering switching to Rackshack.

I currently have my own dns ns1. and ns2. and am wondering how hard it would be to install a dns server on a rackshack server.

I want to switch it over so I don't have to physically change the dns on everyone of my domains is this possible. If so is it easy?

Thanks.

it's easier if you use a third party DNS provider.

Why is it easier if you use a third party DNS provider? If you already have all the domains pointed to ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com, it would seem easier to use your own.

What I am surprised about is that you're switching from Dialtone to Rackshack.

Yeah, just use your own ns1 + ns2 then update the IP's at your registrar to the IP's from your Rackshack server.

Why are Rackshack so bad?

you will need to submit DNS server IP update requests to your domain name registrar so that they refresh ns1.yourname.com and ns2.yourname.com domain name, because your IPs will change when you switch ISP (not if you are located in the same data center of course) :-)

This is not unique to Rackshack - it will happen whenever you change from one ISP (hosting provider) to another.

We're not going to take it anymore! High server prices, that is ...
