WHT used to have a nameserver search - where you could enter a domain and see how many .com, .net and .org domains pointed to them. Where is that?

Recently, someone posted another version of that - but it didn't seem to work as nicely. You had to enter each individual nameserver on that version. :(

Anyone??

Matt just threw it up for a few days.
Maybe get ahold of him?

Matt scraped that a while ago, but I thought it was a very useful little tool

Tina,

Are you asking how to build such a tool? Bitserve.com was hosting the more recent one.

If you want access to the database directly, check out WWW.VERISIGN-GRS.COM.

Building a quick web app to do the search you want shouldn't be real difficult from the gtld zone file.

No, I want to search all of our nameservers (and resllers' nameservers) to find out how many .com, .net and .org domains are pointing to them.

Aha, I found it: http://www.bitserve.com/cgi-bin/query.pl You happen to be the 2nd most search name too. :)

This is the one that requires that you type in each nameserver. *ugh*

The one here searched "affordablehost.com" and gave me a number and a partial list of domains.

Oops, you are right. Short of downloading the latest zone file and grepping affordablehost.com out of it, I'm affraid I can't do much else. :) That may take me a day or so though -- it's a big file and I'll have to relocate my log in information, it's been a while.

How can I download the latest zone file? Is it available for general public?

You fill out an application form on the Verisign site and then you are given a username and password to download the Zone file.

It's up to 6gig or something now in size. It's been a while since I've downloaded it.

I'm trying to think of a decent reason to give myself to download all of it :D Maybe just to have it...
