That's not unusual. Most browsers will filter out background colors when they're ready to print a page.

You can create style sheets specifically for printers. This might help - http://www.alistapart.com/articles/goingtoprint/ - but ultimately, it's up to the visitors how much ink they're willing to sacrifice. There's not much you can do about that, except perhaps serve up documents that are meant to be print-only as .pdf files.

That does often happen with most browsers to cut down the size of the page and to help the printer
