View Full Version : Are my plans reasonable?
Noldar 04-08-2002, 03:36 PM I've tried to put together my hosting plans with the goal of long term profitability, rather than just trying to get as many customers as I can. I'm just not sure my plans are appealing enough to compete with all the low priced hosts out there.
If you guys would take a look at http://www.noldarhosting.com/hosting.html and give me your comments and suggestions I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Richard
FocusOn718 04-08-2002, 03:38 PM Bandwidth overages are charged at a rate of $5/GB. Additional bandwidth may be purchased at a rate of $3.50/GB a month.
^-- Confusing
Everything elses seems reasonable
FocusOn718 04-08-2002, 03:40 PM Un related issue, may I ask what service you use for your order form? Is that all automatic or does it e-mail you the info? I wont process an order because I don't want to put dummy information in your system.
From what it looks like, he made his own? Correct me if I'm wrong
okihost 04-08-2002, 03:45 PM Prices are a little steep but if you have support that is ok people are willig to pay for it.. Best of luck.

This is meant to encourge users to buy any additional bandwidth up-front instead of just going over their allotment. That makes it easier for me to determine if I need to purchase additional bandwidth.

The order form e-mails me the encrypted information. I used a script called SimpleSecure from http://www.verysimple.com. If you want to see how it works you can just put 'testing' in the comments field. You can also use a Visa card number of 4111111111111111 to test a credit card order.
Thanks for the feedback.

iamdave 04-09-2002, 12:05 AM Prices are just a little too high...might want to lower them a bit. But once again as someone already stated if your support is good then I guess it is okay.

I would recommend rewording that to this:
Bandwidth overages are charged at a rate of $5/GB. Additional bandwidth may be purchased at a rate of $3.50/GB a month if ordered in advance.
Or at least something to that extent, it will reduce the confusion.
About your prices, they are fairly steep as mentioned, and as mentioned, people will be ok if the service and support is top notch. It will be hard to build the reputation though. I have sent you a PM with some suggestions on how you can offer more to your customers for their money.
Noldar 04-09-2002, 09:34 AM Prices are too high
Do you think I should simply lower prices on the existing plans or do you think I need to lower prices and add more bandwidth or other features?

I think I'll probably just change this to:
Additional bandwidth may be purchased at a rate of $3.50/GB a month.
One other thing that I have noticed is that people seem to insist on having telnet/SSH. Plesk just isn't set up to safely allow this. How big of a turn-off do you think no telnet/SSH access is?
Thanks for all the great feedback.

ToastyX 04-09-2002, 06:34 PM Steep? It's not like he's using a RackShack server. Too many people are spoiled with all the cheap offers available these days. I think his prices look fine, and with those prices, he'll be able to provide better service and support.
One recommendation, change "Static IP Address" to "Dedicated IP Address" because they should all be static. ;)
Plesk wasn't really made to handle shell access, which is one of the reasons I don't like Plesk.

This is what I was thinking, but I'm having a hard time finding customers that think that way
I'm thinking maybe I need to work on where I'm marketing.

Thanks. Got it.

I don't really think any of the control panels handle shell access very well. I thought Plesk was the best compromise available.

My unprofessional opinion is that you should get rid of NH-2 and offer NH-3 for a bit less money.. indirectly encouraging them to purchase the more expensive plan on a "just in case.. it doesn't cost much more then NH-1" basis. Also.. reguarding the "Additional bandwidth ...", just change purchased to pre-purchased, clears it right up.
My $.02..
Justin
On a side note.. IMHO you should invest in a new domain name and a template.
Noldar 04-10-2002, 08:07 PM I've redone my hosting plans. Take a look at the new plans and let me know what you think.

Website Rob 04-11-2002, 01:08 PM Whew! I'm glad you mentioned you had updated your hosting page. After seeing comments of "prices too high" and seeing what is there now, I was getting worried. ;)
Pricing seems to be inline with today's current trends, but I would wonder just what a "Web User" is? With NH1 for example, what does "2" represent? Should always provide explainations to terms that maybe confusing or people want to know more about. This would include info on which Control Panel you provide, what version of software (PHP 4.1.2 for example), etc. People are getting more knowledgeable these days and since IMHO, a Control Panel is a must, most want to know which one, which version -- do not expect people to Email you for answers as it's too easy to just go somewhere else.
