Anyone heard of this concept before? It is rather interesting. I've only found a couple sites that offer reselling and allow you to make your own ISP company for an average of $8.00 per dialup account. (With a setup fee)

I've thought about doing it myself. There's a few threads on the board that talks about it. Interesting concept but working for an Isp in the past lead me to think the support would be a lot more consuming than it would be for webhosting.

Here is one thread that talks about it:

Yep... and remember that unlike with web hosting, email support won't cut it. When people are having problems with your dialup services, the point is they can't get online -- they can't email you and they can't get to your support forums. They'll expect phone support, and you'll be competing with the likes of aol, msn, and earthlink so customers will be used to 24-hour phone support.

And if you think hosting customers can be clueless... at least they almost all have some knowledge of how the net works. Supporting dialup users means supporting some of the most clueless pc users, especially if you plan to market widely.

There are many companies provides such a service...

I think cari.net is one of them.

Well put JayC. You'll have to really be ready to talk on the phone 24x7 just to keep up with all the support calls.

Oh how I remember those days well.

Wait till you get calls like this:

User: I think I deleted the internet
Support: What makes you say that ma'am
User: Because it's not on my desktop anymore

Just think of having calls like that while trying to run your webhosting operations. If you have the staff freat but if your funds, staff, and time are lacking then you might want to do a little more research before jumping into being your own Isp.

I by no means want to discourage you but I want you to know there will be more resources involved than normal. :)

Sounds like we could use some input from Dixiesys here. :D

From everything I've read in the other threads it sounds extraordinarily time consuming. Is it too much work for a one person operation? Also, having a life is important too.
