Hello,
Merak cost for unlimited users $280
Imail cost for unlimited users $1995
Merak is much cheaper dan Imail, but most windows 2000 hostingcompany's i've seen are using Imail. Can somebody tell me why, whats the different between those??
Thanks a lot.

We have Imail and Merak on our servers and they both work very well. I think IMail is a little more polished looking but both have about the same amount of features (Merak is a little more developer friendly).
Hope that helps!

I'll tell you why..
Imail is the best mail server I've ever seen and used.
I bet it can even dust off the Exchange's reputation if it would be known by most Mail Administrators.
As you can see, I don't even compare Merak Mail and Imail cause they're not in the same league.

JKW, I thnk that you need to go up to the $460 standard powerpack on Merak to really compare similair features. You do not get the web-mail tool for the $280, but you do get it with imail. Personally I think as far as mail servers go they both do the job very well. Merak to me has a better web administration tool set, especially for domain mail administrators. Imail has a much better web mail tool, much much better. I think the price difference is just a matter of when it was first made available, and the size of the companies behind it. Merak seems to be a very small company, but very responsive to their clients.

Exchange's reputationActually, I think there are more installations of IMail than Exchange becuase of Exchange's horrid reputation. Food for thought!

Technical reasons? I think we'd rather actually compare features instead.
I have used MDaemon, Imail and Merak on several installations.
Even we have a 4- CPU :D Proliant 750 running exchange in office (as they love microsoft and I hate it, I prefer exim and sendmail :) , and by the way, I'm the administrator).
I prefer MDaemon for single domain purpose because of it's stability and great admin interface. It is also very good if you do not need it's web interface but seems to have some instabilities in its web interface yet.
Imail is very good but has some bugs and I have had some problems with it.
And Merak. It has the best cost/performance between these (even with its web interface addin or power pack) . It is cheaper but it has most of features of the other two have.
I will go with merak if I would want to setup a dedicated.
And finally I can run any of these three on a single home made server to run the same process we have on our 4- CPU exchange server in office.

I went with Merak and have not had any regrets. I felt it had more 'bang' for the buck. I am using the standard power pack which is only $460 for unlimited domains and accounts compared to $2540 for IMail. Many have also had good results with MailMax. All three are excellent products and each have demos you should try out and decide which serves your needs the best.
