Sorry, just had to vent somewhere and this looked like as good of a place as any.

I am sick and tired of Sprint PCS's so-called customer service.

They have NONE!

Everytime I call them I am put on hold for what seems like an hour and finally I am speaking to an individual who will not budge an inch on anything as far as fees go. When I wanted to cancel my account, I was not able to get any fees waived. When I wanted to add another line, I could not get any fees waived. When I exchanged out an existing phone for a new one, I was charged another activation fee that I could not get waived.

Everytime I ask to speak to a supervisor, I get one on the line and they cannot waive the fee. I ask to speak to their supervisor and am told that there is not one available and I would have to write in to their customer care department.

Argh! And I can't even get out of my damn contract!

Oh well, sorry for the venting, but I needed that.

Later peeps.

Hah, a few years back me and my father went to a Sprint PCS store in Georgetown because he needed to to replace him current phone. He told them he wanted the Government rate, and when they asked who he worked for, he said "The DOD."

"Who?" they asked.
"The Department of Defense."
"Never heard of it."

How could you live in DC and never have heard of the Department of Defense? Morons...

Another fine example of utter incompetence by certain companies...

Well, since etLux is being uncharacteristically agreable, I'll be uncharacteristically disagreeable: so what?

What does customer service have to do with getting out of a contract you agreed to because later you decide you don't like the terms?

Why should they waive fees just because you ask them to? Why should you get out of paying fees that are clearly spelled out and specified in advance, like that to add a new phone, while other people who made the same agreement you did go ahead and pay them... just like they agreed to?

If I host a site with you for six months or so, will you waive the fees if I call and ask you to?

Wah! I want a new Mercedes, but the dealer won't waive the fee!

(Sorry, I'm auditioning for my new role as Sarcastic Argumentative Guy. And now I'm late for my appointment with the wardrobe department.)

Let me explain why I needed to cancel the service:

I have had numerous dropped calls and their service was unacceptable. I called to complain and they basically said, tough luck. You are in a contract and there is nothing we can do for you. I told them that a contract was a two way agreement and that I would pay for service, if in fact I was getting service. This was going on and on in circles.

I have no problem honoring contracts, as long as both sides keep up with their end.

Now you have gotten me even more po'd!

By the way, for what it's worth I've been a sprint PCS customer for over two years and have never had any complaints. I've called customer support only a couple of times and don't remember having any kind of irritating wait. Coverage is great where I live (metro NYC), although I did find when I bought a new phone a while ago (Samsung 8500) it got much better. The new phones are pretty impressive in signal quality compared to my two-year-old one.

And yeah when I switched to the new phone I had to pay to activate it. It seemed silly to me to have to pay to activate when I'd just given them $200 for the phone and was just replacing and tossing out the old one. But it never even occured to me to try to get them to waive the fee.

I believe Sprint is PCS only while AT&T is both digital and analog so you get coverage in areas where there's no digital coverage.

Hehe, sprint sucks. They are just on their high horse. They treat me like I have to use them for local service(which I do), but it pisses me off. Soon, the tables will be turned and they will have to start using other methods to get business other than a virtual monopoly.

Do you guys get allot of roaming ?

I think that's a private matter. If I did, I certainly wouldn't want my wife to find out.

By definition PCS is digital, but both Sprint's and AT&T's PCS customers have analog roaming access -- as long as your phone has the capability.

There's also a common misconception that since a Sprint analog/digital phone is "dual band" and an AT&T equivalent is "three band" the AT&T service is superior, but that is also inaccurate. AT&T uses two different digital bands for their PCS, Sprint uses only one. To the user that's completely irrelevant.

I keep analog turned off on my phone, because I never need it around here, but again that's the NY metro area which has pretty extensive coverage by all the carriers. It's also been the case for the past year or so that I don't need it while travelling for work -- coverage at major airports and downtown areas in major cities bas become almost seamless, as it has along US interstate highways.

At my office, most AT&T customers can not get a digital connection indoors, while I can with Sprint. I'm sure there are other locations where the situation is reversed.

When I go to the Catskills or the Adirondacks I can't get any connection at all. Which, of course, is exactly the point of being there!

They didn't want to waive it when your brought them a phone you'd purchased elsewhere because they want to make money (imaging that!), but when you bought a phone from them they already made the big sale so they skipped the income for the activation. Maybe they even have to pay it (or a reduced rate) to Sprint themselves.

When I called to cpomplain about calls being dropped in the middle of densely populated areas, I was given some BS about how I had an 'old' phone (18 months, not even out of diapers yet) and it needed to be upgraded to reflect the new cell sites that were built. Hmm.. okay, since I couldn't weasel my way out of the contract I brought mine and the wife's in for an 'upgrade' and whaddyaknow - the problem has all but disappeared. I was losing around 30-40% of the calls before this upgrade.

When I asked how come they never communicated this to their customers, the rep mumbled something about a notice in our statements. To this day I have never seen one.

Give this a try, it's free and they only keep your phone hostage for a few hours. Although my beeps are different now... small price to pay I guess!
