why don't you just buy an audio cable and connect it to your hi-fi's cd input?

you need a

3.5mm stereo male* plug to 2 rca male* plug ac cable

*you also get the female if that's what you need

and you can more than likely pick it up from your local supermarket for ~$1

for a picture of the male:

and another picture of the male for price comparison:

now i'm concidering the logitech 4.1 system, after reading the reviews i read that it performs better than the klipsch 4.1 promedia setup

so many choices!
they better be worth the money
just out of curiosity, do you think i can hook up a car amp and subs with speakers to a computer? or possibly a cd player with a receiver?

I have the Logitech Z560 4.1 system and it's well worth the money. You may have to play around with the placement of the sub to keep from having too much bass. I bought mine from Newegg.com.

You have obviously increased your budget since the Altec Lansing speakers you linked to appear to cost around $199. Have you considered a Cambridge SoundWorks speaker system? I have the DeskTop Theatre 5.1 DTT2500 Digital system and it can only be described with one word: Awesome! :D

They have a new model now which can be seen here:
http://www.cambridgesoundworks.com/packages/ensemble4_ht_blk.htm

It is also $199 and looks to be just as good, if obviously not better than what I currently have.

Or even this one which is a step up from what I have, model wise:
http://www.cambridgesoundworks.com/multimedia/dtt3500.htm

These both can be purchase via hifi.com and the second is $205.96 right now instead of $279.99 as advertised on cambridgesoundworks.com.

Good luck...

markblair, the Ensemble IV Home Theater Speaker System looks nice but do you think i can run it on my computer?

if so they are going for around $70 on ebay, which i think is a definate steal!

and also i think the DeskTop Theater 5.1 DTT3500 Digital setup is only around 80 watts which makes the logitech z560 5 times more powerful!

i'm really shopping for best wattage/quality of sound for lowest price and logitech seems to be a winner so far

another thing is,
if i get the logitech setup, do you think i can buy an attachment so i can use it with a dvd player or even my ps2?

You know, I didn't even think of that to be honest. I checked again and there is nothing that states how it connects, that I can see. Being that it is specific in the title about being a "Home Theatre Speaker System" it may not work. Although I would think the connections would be the same!?!?!? As for the DTT3500, it is still a definite good buy, although if it is high wattage you're looking for (as you've stated) then it would not be the best option.

Just buy a $1000 stero system and hook the speakers up to your computer. That is what I have done...that is load :D

Yes you can hook up a car amp and subs with speakers to a computer. At the back of your car radio you should see some female RCA plugs. There are usually 2 x (2xRCA females) - one for your cd shuttle and the other spare. If you have only 1 x (2xRCA female) you can buy a splitter. If you have no RCA's at the back of your car radio, you can hook your PC up directly to your cars audio amp, also using RCA cables (2 RCA female to 2 RCA female AC cable).

And yes you can also hook up a cd player with receiver to your computer using the 3.5mm stereo to 2 RCA male AC cable. Simply plug the 3.5mm into your speaker cards headphone socket or your computers cd player headphone socket.

:D

damn, now i wanna spend like 500 for a 1000 watts bass and some nice speakers with a nice amp after reading the above post,

but i think my mom would get mad if i put it too loud ? ;)

i remember seeing this one setup in futureshop(i think it's only in canada) and it was on volume 7 and the floor was shaking after i put it to about 12, that was searously loud! imagine putting it on like 40? lol, the windows would break,

BUT since i still haven't won the lottery and i don't have the money, i think i'm gonna stick with the logitech 400 watts setup

I've also been looking to buy a set of speakers for my computer ever since 3 of my friends bought the Logitech Z560's!

Let me tell you, the sub sounds great for how much you would spend on them (you can get them for $139 free shipping at 2buystore.com)

and yes, I have read the many reviews and Z560 is the top of the line for its value!

I guess if you have the money, you can also go with the 5.1 Klipsch ~ but I dont think that they are worth it.

I'll be buying a set of z560s as soon as another good $110 deal comes around! :)

I have no idea when a $110 z560 deal is going to come around again - these deals have been for dell and gateway's accessory store with coupons you can add to bring the price down...

I'm just being patient until this things comes around...
