Mods: This thread might be in the wrong forum; if that's the case, move it to its appropiate forum and please accept my apologies.

After many months, I now have http://www.poetryrealm.com up and running. That said, I need to advertise and maybe get a good rank on SERPs. With the school season in view, I can advertise my site in schools/colleges but right now, I'm trying to focus on search engines.

The site was launched about a week ago, thus, it really doesn't have any search traffic.

I was approached by a guy who offered to sell me a link on his homepage. The domain URL gives these link pop stats:

teoma.com
links found: 99

altavista.com
links found: 2,820

google.com
links found: 131

alltheweb.com
links found: 2,480

When you type in the domain URL, it forwards you to another pasge in the site that has these link pop stats:

teoma.com
links found:

altavista.com
links found: 173

google.com
links found: 131

alltheweb.com
links found: 116

The page that has the above stats is a PR6 webpage.

He's offered to place my link on that page for a sum. I've told myself at first that it'd be a smart idea but then after reading a few things I found online, I figured it'd be a pretty bad move to make. But now I'm wondering - Would being linked to this website really help my own site in any way? It'll boost my PR probably, yeah, but would the link really help me get traffic to my site? Is it a good investment or should I avoid this idea? I know that being linked to other websites will help me out but does this one site alone truely have what it takes to get my site off the ground? If not, what would it take? I implore you all to give me feedback-I really, really need all that I can get.

I'd worry more less about your content, then in time PR will come....another suggestion is to also make sure your domain is more then a year away from expiry as this also helps your PR.

I think a good place fo you to start would be to search and seek out Poetry Forums and Poetry Communities. There are also many directories out there you can submit your site to for free. I ran across this site it contains a list of free and paid directories. www.info-sales.co.uk.
