Can anyone recommend a freeware Graphics tool
(resize, optimise etc)

I need to have a quick and handy tool to edit images when onsite.

Don't want to install Firework/photoshop to do these small tasks

Can anyone suggest a good little proggy

Try www.photofiltre.com . For it's 1.6MB it has been really impressive. ;)

Gimp is probably the best bet....

You could try the Gimp, photoplus or pexia after going through their review as below;
