Hi, I forgot to renew my domain back in June so my webhost locked it, they now appear to have finally unlocked it but now it doesn't appear on some whois querys but on others it has the status "pendingdeletion"

Anyone know how long it will be until it can be re-registered?

Pending-Deletion status lenght is 6 days:

Copyright: Bashar

Please remember that other people may try to grab it after it is deleted in the Registry, so if the domain name is very important for you, using backordering services might be a good option

My new hosting company provides a free domain with each order so the plan is to do things that way. Hopefully no one will want the domain its had little (next to nothing) on it for the past year and its not really a popular name, I would be surprised if someone wanted it and tbh I couldn't be bothered to pay to much for it.

But I am a little concerned as even know the status is pending deletion the dns is set to name-servers.com ?

You'd be surprised at what domains people get after seeing them on 'expiring soon' lists.

We get about one post a week in this section about someone who wanted to save a few dollars and they went for the "free domain" deal. When you do that, your host will put the domain in their name - not yours. Then when you try to move to another host, good luck getting your domain name back.

I usually recommend that people register their name at one place that is a legitimate registration company (like NameCheap or DomainSite) and then get hosting at a completely separate company. This way, the domain name always stays in YOUR control.

BTW... if you run the domain through the FreeWho checker, it gives a good estimate of when it will be available. www.FreeWho.com/checker/

Good Luck! ;)

Correction on above the dns seems to have been set to, NAME-SERVICES.COM is this suspicious?

Does anyone know a site which would allow me to "pre-register" it so I don't loose it?

NAME-SERVICES.COM is just eNom's (the registrar's) name servers.

You can't "pre-register" it, but you can use one of the many backorder services. The most effective are Pool, SnapNames, ClubDrop, NameWinner and finally, GoDaddy in that order. Usually the more you pay the better chance you have of getting it.

backordering is BS. wan to know the real deal....

i was a webmaster for a friend who owned prorecruiting.com

i coveted the name and always thought of the day it would become mine.

the perm placement staffing industry slumped during the 2000 recession. my friend went bk. i warned him on renewal but he ignored.

i put backorder w godaddy.

i love godaddy. but backorder polled only once a day.

i can do better than that ! it was a waste of money.

my belief is some network solutions exec retired and living in cayman islands. backdoored it. and has a profitable domain reselling business.

hhhhmmm.

i put backorder w godaddy.GoDaddy is not a very effective backorder service. They only have three registrars compared to dozens of registrars that work with Pool, SnapNames and ClubDrop. See: http://www.whois-search.com/deleting/who.php

The more registrars you have, the higher the probability that backorder service will be successful in grabbing your desired name.
