View Full Version : Are you a cat person or a dog person?

Are you a cat person or a dog person (or both or neither)? I'm a cat person, and find that most of my friends are too. I don't hate dogs, I just like cats better. Most cats are usually independent and do what they want while most dogs like to follow the leader and please their master. Most cats are not usually social, and neither am I. Some people just seem to really hate cats though. :(

The poll does not have any option for neither :(

Then there is no need for you to vote :)

I'm a cat person - I like the attitude of cat - same as mine.

I am a cat person, but given the choice I would live pet free.

I am not overly fond of dogs, and I prefer the aloof nature of cats, and how they dont grovel drool of act slovenly. (not to mention getting attacked by a cat is easier to deal with than a dog attack)

My first choice would be fish but that wasn't an option. I do have a black lab and dislike cats so that makes me a dog person :)

I'm a cat person too. They don't need constant attention like dogs, they can live indoors without causing too many accidents, and the biggest plus.. they don't make much noise.

I've started to not like dogs as much as I used to because my neighbor.. they have this big dog (I call it the cow dog because it looks like a cow LOL), and it barks all hours of the day really really loud. When I am working and have a migraine, it is killer.. I yell at the poor thing so much the neighbors think I'm nuts.

Anyway... if you need a quiet, fury companion, a cat is a must. :D

Daushounds are cute.. they are small and if they do bark it isn't very loud. I've also considered getting a greyhound/whippet/italian greyhound (http://www.kturby.com/igfacts/compare2.jpg).. supposedly greyhound breeds hardly bark, so they would suit my quiet nature. :) I'd probably like the italian greyhound best since it's the smallest. Personally, I wouldn't get a pet that would tear any other animal to pieces unless it was for food of course, anyway...that's kind of sad. :(

Cats...

Most dogs just get on my nerves because they always want attention and have to stay right with you at all times while cats will leave you alone and sleep.

I don't like fierce dogs. I have been attacked before, and it was pretty ****ty. At least the dog didnt come out of it alive.

A cat person. We have three including one handicapped after a fall from the fourth floor.

They do demand attention occasionally and usually when I am on ICQ with a client.

I'll say am in a NEITHER mode, right now. I used to like dogs but got viciously attacked by three really ugly dogs, while jogging in my nice neighborhood. Found out they had been abandoned by their owner ........ grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :( If i found their owners today I just might bitch slap em.

I might settle for a really furry cat when I get older for now I'll settle for my boyfriend, he can get all the attention :D

I have 2 cats, 2 very nice cats.

Dogs are sort of ok, but the owners that let their dogs "***p" on my lawn, make me a little annoyed.

and as for CRego3D and this statement.

Blah .. I have 2 dachshunds, they will tear your cats to pieces

If your little dogs tried to tear my pussy cats to pieces. Me and you might have to have a quiet little word or two :)

Have you ever seen a cat pull someone from a burning building??

Have you ever seen a cat ensure that a person with out site makes it to their destination safely??

Have you ever seen a cat protect it’s owner with it’s own life??

Have you ever seen a cat morn the death of it’s master ??

Need I say more????

My sister went walking with her 160 lbs Saint Bernard and her husbands 140 lbs Bull Mastiff.

A couple of guys came out of the bushes….. well I have no need to tell what they did once they saw the dogs LOL. Try that with a friggen cat.

Kind of hard for their small size, but they have been known to pull their own kittens out from a burning building.

I guess you mean sight. I'd have to say nope to that.

Have you ever seen a cat protect it?s owner with it?s own life??
There's not really much a cat can do.

Have you ever seen a cat morn the death of it?s master ??
Yes, I actually have.

Replace cats with chihuahuas and you'll get similar results. Have you ever seen a chihuahua pull someone from a burning building? Have you ever seen a seeing eye chihuahua? If you had a chihuahua instead of a Saint Bernard and Bull Mastiff, what good would that have done? You generalized large dogs and compared them to cats, which are small, and don't start comparing wild cats like tigers, or else you'll have to compare coyotes and wolves too. :)

Name a breed of dog that has more than half the intelligence of a cat :)

Cats are intelligent, affectionate, loveable (apart from when they bring in rats - alive) and cute.

I like dogs too, but cats are my favourite :D

Cats!

Not as much of a mess (nice clumpy box vs. pile of s*** in your lawn). And they're poofy and happy and fun. Some dogs are too big. Cats are small. That's good. My cats are always happy to see me. Possibly because I give them treats. And my cats can sit on my lap while I use my computer. A 160lb Saint Bernard on my lap, would be difficult. Cats! cats! CATS! And JMD, are you aware that the NAZIS, among other things, mourned the deaths of their leaders, and protected their leaders? Think about it!

Haven't seen the cats that'll attack dogs and more?

If you ever had to take care of the aftermath of a nasty cat fight, it's not a pleasant task -- cats can attack the eyes, :puke: GROSS!

Some cats are more vicious than dogs!

My cats get into fights daily, but they're declawed so there's no real damage. If they weren't, I'm sure one of them would be dead by now. They chase each other around the house, roll around biting at each other's faces and necks, hit each other with their paws, and attempt to claw each other. It's entertaining, even more than a laser.

bulldogs don't need to be kicked either.. eash

Anyway, I think if you can love an animal it doesn't matter what it is. Dog or cat, I think it basically relies on the type of lifestyle you live and your environment. I can only have small pets, if I had a dog it would have to be a small dog.. ever seen a Californian's backyard? Not much room to run around and get exercise, which most larger dog breeds need (otherwise its just animal cruelty and you end up with a barking and whining dog like my neighbors). :(

I agree, I hope you knwo I was joking with you earlier :)

Anyway .. I have a neighbour that her son's girlfriend has PIGS as pets ... she adopts "abandoned" pigs that people buy when they small, and realize they get too big to be house pets, I am a PIG LOVER too, I keep telling her I would LOVE to adopt a few myself, I would take sutch good care of them :)

Just imagine ..

Pig Roast
Pork Chops
Pork Loin

What's not to LOVE :D

(so far she won't let me "adopt" one, I think the smoker in my backyard gave it away)

I guess I'm both though I do prefer dogs. However, I own a cat because frankly they are MUCH lower maintenance. As much as I love dogs and as badly as I want one, I just don't have the time to devote to one. Cats, once you get them trained and they get out of the crazy kitten stage are easy.

Well I don't have much of a choice. I don't have any pets for the reason that pets* are attracted to me

Doesn't matter how small, how big or how ficious, but whenever I visit friends/family that have pets, the first thing that happens when I make my way to the front door is that the pets want to give me hugs (and I'm like get away, don't jump on me, don't follow me). Then when I'm sitting down, it's lap pile up and cleanup time (Cat licking my arm/leg, dog licking my face.) :bawling:

Their owners are always surprised as they see their ficious pet(s) so tame around me and when they see all their pets altogether in harmony. Yeah, I'll have a dog, a cat and a bird on me all at the same time and they all get along fine. No quarrels.

* this applies to animals too, wild'nog'al'to

My dog... if you want to call it that. Many say mickey mouse with a beard. She gets my shoes when I ask her too, even if they are as big as she is. We are working on retrieving a cold beverage, but she can't open the fridge :(

She's 9, but sick as a dog right now :( . Gotta take her to the vet in a couple days.

Thats one thing about pets you have to make yhe finacial commitment to them as well. It can get expencive.

OK This could be another question. What would be the limite you would spend on your pet. Lets face it by time they get sick they usually have been with you for sometime.

Is it 100 dollars ??

500 dollars

I am more of a cat person. Only for the reason that it is alot easier to take care of them. You dont need to let them out during the day and they require less attention. Also If I want to go away for a weekend to Florida during the cold NE winter I can say bye bye to fluffy on friday morning and come back sunday night with no problem. Something that cannot be done with a dog..

completely agree with ya there, dogs require ALOT of attention...
i hate seeing dogs being neglected by their owners :( usually don't feel that way about cats cause they seem to go fine without attention.

I've never actually had a cat respond to me before, like, if I go near it, the cat might run away or whatever but those that don't, they just look at you then look away.

Dogs on the other hand respond to me pretty well - most of em always seem to want to be hugged or something, following you around :D

i guess its a personal preference ;)

Yeah, and the little stinkers want the best food, the cleanest litterbox and momma giving them undivided attention (don't know about others, but mine DEMAND attention - or they'll climb up my leg and plop right on the keyboard for it!).

Love dogs too. Had German Shepards as a kid. Just not enough room for dogs & cats -- nor the $$$ more for food/vet care.
