Is it just me or are so many people in the requests forum asking for so much for so little? If I were to convert some of the hosting requests into apartment requests, it'd look something like:
- 3 bedroom
- 2 bathroom
- Furnished
- Hardwood floors
- Fire place
- Air conditioning
- Washer and dryer
- Dishwasher
- Kitchen
- Dining room
- Balcony
- Must allow all pets
- Clubhouse
- Swimming pool
- Utilities included
- Electricity included
- Cable TV included
- No deposit
$200 per month.
I mean, isn't that ridiculous? :buck: It seems mostly RackShack hosts are responding. Maybe if RackShack offered unmanaged dedicated apartment complexes... :D Haven't even finished the post and I'm getting off topic. :buck: Anyway, this isn't about RackShack. This is about the people that ask for too much. Just looking for other opinions.

ToastyX........
I agree 100%.....and I have been thinking the same thing myself, that is why I never even venture into the requests forum.........
why is it that everyone thinks hosting costs nothing???????

I completely agree. Some people just think we are crazy for charging decent prices because they are so used to paying nothing for everything.
This is about the people that ask for too much. It shouldn't be. It should be about the hosts that give away too much. You can't really blame the customers for asking, and if their requests weren't met they wouldn't bother -- exactly why you won't really see that apartment analogy posted.

This is true. If they can get it then no one should be surprised they ask. Also note that while a certain percentage of the population will always look for the cheapest, a very strong amount will also need or want something more expensive (I'm trying not to infer that inexpensive hosting equals poor services).

With the wide range of plans available it is hard to tell what a fair price per month is.
I’ve been looking for web hosting for a while now. When I posted in the request forums I never expected to get so many offers! There are plans ranging from 25mb/1Gb to 350mb/15Gb for under $10 per month.
So the question that I’m having to answer is, what is $10 per month really worth? Having never dealt with a web host before, I don’t know what things should cost. Should I be able to get under or over 5Gb bandwidth, and what about disk space?
I’ve finally given up, I’m going to go with best looking company that offers the best packages for the lowest amount of money. I figure that it won’t hurt me to much if the company goes under. If they do I can always move up to a site that charges a little more or offers less stuff.
Oh and please don’t send me anymore offers, my head hurts already! :)

Ahhh!! Great thread :D
and funny too.
Seriously though I think Jays response pretty much sums it up!
Everything has become **overkill** and pretty bad when consumers come here and end up being MORE overwhelmed than when they started.

I'm not sure that's uncommon however. When I was looking for reviews on camcorders, I stumbled across sites that listed every single camcorder made, and found models I didn't know existed. The quantity of information surely hasn't helped me decide :(
