I purchased two servers - up to now I have been reselling so I didn't get into cpanel from a low level too much.

My question is - cpanel works on freebsd and linux

Does it work BETTER on linux or does EVERYTHING work on both setups. Lots of software has a preferred environment where other OS versions work but since it was written for linux as a main deal then some of the freebsd parts would be broke or not a focus of improvement for the cpanel team.

I know FreeBSD much better than linux, although I can do both.

I want to use the FreeBSD one personally but I want to know if other people here use it and what their experiences with the FreeBSD version is.

I'd like to know that too. Considering the FreeBSD version was just released recently, so I don't trust it quite yet, but I don't have a FreeBSD box to test it on. It was made for Red Hat Linux, so I'd say go with Linux for now.

It shouldn't be a problem. Because a control panel is just to control other software. Hopefully the cpanel guys must have done the testing.

Let me test it on FreeBSD

If you can chose, I would go for the freeBSD version. Just because freeBSD handles tcp/ip stocks better then a linux server. And you have the ultimate port collection :)

The freeBSD version is really in beta mode and hasn't fully had the bugs worked out. For this reason, I recommend linux at this time. That may change though...
