View Full Version : Rackshack Plesk Resellers
papepo55 04-06-2002, 08:21 AM I think cyberwings.com were a good Rackshack Reseller. But cyberwings.com moved to new data center.
What do you think of Rackshack Plesk Resellers? Aren't plesk-control-panels good for Resellers? Aren't Rackshack servers good for Resellers? I like Rackshack data center. Their servers are fast.

Chicken 04-06-2002, 12:28 PM As a user of Plesk, it can give resellers a pretty decent amount of control. I will say that it might be a bit confusing for someone just jumping into reselling, but I suppose FAQ docs could be helpful in this area.
Incognito 04-06-2002, 03:23 PM But, lacks in visual appeal to many users, so may be less marketable. I find, given a choice, users prefer an interface such as CPanel, Alabanza, potentially Hostgui.
papepo55 04-06-2002, 05:44 PM I heard that Plesk is more stable than CPanel.
When HostGUI and VirtualCP(MCHost) are released in Q2 2002, will Plesk fade out from the reseller's market?
I think MCHost knows reseller's business very much and HostGUI looks very good for the resellers. But I think they won't be stable in 2002.
MCHost-Marc 04-06-2002, 05:59 PM We won't be releasing VirtualCP until its stable. We will release a stable version and there will be patches/upgrade available if needed, but not every night like CPanel.
TeleSouthNet 04-06-2002, 06:41 PM Hello Everyone,
We have been using Plesk for over a year now. I have it set up on 18 servers and I have to say that they have put together a VERY NICE front end for hosting management. The end users and resellers get a lot of control over thier sites and businesses. And it has truly allowed us to save money and time due to a reduced tech support load.
Plesk does have a few weak points in features and little nit picky oversites in display options. But all in all I would give it an A in stability and usability
Just last night though, we decided to install the trial version of Ensim Webpliance 3.0 for Linux. I will be happy to provide our opinion on this product once we have it set up completely.
<<Please put other part in an ad thread>>
AcuNett 04-07-2002, 12:33 AM Only bad thing about PLESK is that it never supplies patches  . Only "upgrades" which take months to complete. Otherwise we find it very good and relatively bug free, except for some minor design flaws.
papepo55 04-07-2002, 07:32 AM More and more resellers go to DV2.net.
DV2.net provides high-spec servers, free IPs, low price, one time fee of upgrading HD and RAM, and remote reboot.
I prefer Rackshack. But Rackshack resellers are harder than DV2.net resellers.
Resellers need data backup(HD), IPs and good control panels. I think Rackshack Plesk servers are limited.
iamdave 04-08-2002, 02:47 AM PLESK is nice.
NexDog 04-10-2002, 11:14 AM Hi,
Yes, Plesk is just about the best which is why we went with them. But your admins better know what they are doing because there are a few oddities that need to be taken care of. ;)
And they do issue patches, not many, but I remember installing one about 2 months ago.
NexDog 04-10-2002, 11:16 AM By the way, Myacen left Rackshack because of poor technical support that took one of their boxes offline for 4 days. Draw what conclusions you will...........
optix 04-11-2002, 07:48 PM rackshack gives too many problems. plesk reselling is GREAT! but i advise you to find a better dedicated server company.
Rackshack.net is comparable to DonHost.com. I wouldn't deal with either.
ToastyX 04-11-2002, 08:55 PM My opinion is to avoid RackShack resellers. RackShack is good for large or busy personal and hobby or small business sites, but I wouldn't recommend going with a host that runs off of RackShack servers. Things might be fine when things go right, but when things go wrong, RackShack is usually of no help. That passes on the frustration to the customers. That's just my opinion.

Why you in their chat all the time, if you don't like 'em?
RescueHst 04-11-2002, 10:34 PM Rackshack does well for most customers, I have been with them for 1.5 years and really never had any lack of suport from them.
We all get impatient when things dont go the right way but if a person usses tac, most things get done in reasonable time.
As far as Plesk goes.... me kinda wishes I went with that but ensim runs pretty slick and fast
iamdave 04-11-2002, 11:11 PM Their support isn't as good as you make it up to be. They really don't support anything besides hardware. Anyway, for the price, I really could care less, I find alot of help here and at plesk forums, so they can keep their support to themselves.
AcuNett 04-12-2002, 12:02 AM We haven't had any network / hardware problems with Rackshack as of yet since the DC move (Well of course a server would be down in that case)
"And they do issue patches, not many, but I remember installing one about 2 months ago."
hehe now that I remember yes, the two patches they supplied. Didn't upgrade anything important :( (Like WEBMAIL!! lol). Just some minor bug fixes.

3 hours for a reboot.
Every problem is answered with "reinstall the OS".
I am leaving too, albeit slowly :D
NexDog 04-12-2002, 02:27 AM Am I glad we didn't go for the quick buck and pay over the top for RackSpace. :D
