is posting mp3s on a site legal, if not how does everyone else do it???????

stealing isn't legal too, but most of the ppl are doing it all the time.

its leagl if you own the copyright, IE made the song

posting copyrighted mp3's is illegal, but unless you're uploading multiple gigs of songs, especially complete albums, there aren't too many who will go after you, especially if it's your own server (if it's not, your host may go after you in order to avoid legal liablity and of course bandwidth issues). In other words, posting a few songs for your friends will probably not be a problem. RIAA has bigger fish to fry (ie. KaZaA and Audiogalaxy).

actually, the illegal part isn't posting it....

the illegal part is distributing (meaning people besides you actually download it) mp3s...

if you want to upload some mp3 files to your server so you(and you only) can use winamp at work to listen to them, that is perfectly legal (again, as long as no one else downloads them and you own the CDS or have bought the mp3s from a "partner" company)
