View Full Version : How does the WHT points system work ?

I am just curious, since I've "never" been a bad boy ;) ,
or maybe cuz I'm an "old fart" the MODS cut me some slack....

but, how does the "point system" work @ WHT (yes, I've searched) ?

Is it like "speeding tickets", depending on how "bad" you are you get so many points for a particular incident,
and after your reach a certain number of points your account is suspended ?

Like driving, after being "good" for a period of time, do you get points taken away ?

Thanks,
Brian

opps, maybe this should be in:

WHT-Announcements, WHT-Feedback, WHT-Questions

They are sort of like frequent flyer miles. You can redeem them for a lot of neat things on WHT

Like you said, it's very much:

and after your reach a certain number of points your account is suspended ?

When allocating points, the offence and any previous offences can (and are) taken into account. Points have a value and an expiry - for example, you can get 15 points for 60 days, 5 points for 120 days etc… If you end up with more than 30 ‘valid’ points your account gets banned, and once you fall back under 30 points (e.g. some of your points 'expire') your account can be reactivated.

Some things like spamming and multiple user names are instant bans however.

That help?

tickedon summed it up pretty nicely. :)

I'd just like to take this opportunity to add that the warning system is in place to remind members that we all have Guidelines (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/misc.php?s=&action=forum-rules) we agreed to follow when we joined, and to review and understand those Guidelines (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/misc.php?s=&action=forum-rules).

The majority of the members, like the thread starter, never receive a warning. And, it isn't because we treat them any different. It's just that most members find it easy to follow Guidelines (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/misc.php?s=&action=forum-rules).

Further; the warning system isn't in place to ban members. Although that is a definite consequence; it isn't the purpose.

It's all about the Guidelines (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/misc.php?s=&action=forum-rules). :)

Also if you go to vbulletin.org, you can learn more about how it works. Although the WHT system is a tweaked version, the function is pretty simular to the mods listed on vb.org.

But as long you know all about the Guidelines (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/misc.php?s=&action=forum-rules) , you should have to worry about points. :)

How does one find out how many points one has ?

At this point, you need to open a ticket (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/helpdesk/).

Maybe it might be an idea to add the ability for users to see points and expiration of these in a panel on the UCP?

You can also figure out the number of points and expiry date from the emails you would have received.

It did get moved, but I still claim the right to slap you around with a large trout.
