I'm starting a free web hosting and I' trying to find a feasible way to make advetising revenue. I was thinking of doing what GA-Sports has done to http://www.frontofficefotball.com with the bar accross the top. However, instead of links to sites, I'd put a text advertisiment. Could this work. I'd be an SSI code, so i could update it frequently and members wouldn't have to display a banner. What do you think?

Did you know all text links belong to British telecom :)?

Syanet --> wouldnt the links bar be as good as a full sized banner ad???

Techics --> you mean the ones on the site, or what?

No, it'd be just as long, but much more narrorw. 12-18 pixels.

If you were joining a free host, would this be suitable replacement for a banner?

(ignore the popup, it's something different)

Its neat and perfect actually, but I dunno, you wouldnt be able to generate much of a revenue with it.

Whhy not? Text links are not statisticaly better than banners and I'll prefill the searh box with a term so a visitor would only have to press submit. I think it can be very profitable. At least better than banners.

go here http://www.netmag.co.uk - Look for the july issue and read the column about BT charging US ISP's to use hypertext links. They can only do this until 2006 though.
