I had a cobalt (amd 450mhz 2x20GB IDE 512 MB ram) with rackshack, the site runs mainly a mod_perl application, every page view goes through mod_perl, the site was quite busy, dealing about 17 million page views a month, and frequently more requst coming in than the server can handle, and the whole thing goes to a downward spiral as the server enters a thrashing state, it becomes completely non-responsive, the load average goes to > 25, there is no memory left to launch a login session, and the server has to be rebooted .

I ordered a new machine with 1.3 GHZ celeron and 512 MB ram ($99/$99), so far it's handling abut 700,000 page views a day, and the CPU usage is only about 20%! I have no doubt, this site will soon goes to > 1 million page views a day, as it has become more responsive and reliable.

Ok.. I got a lot of posts and last time I looked, I have never seen a check from Rackshack in my mailbox either.. In fact, I'm a poor barsteward trying to make ends meet who had to change from his credit card to his debit card to pay his bill at RS..

And I'm damn happy with both my boxes that I can't afford even at the great rate there!

I've got a client sucking my bandwidth to the point I'd be selling everything I own to pay for it anywhere else, a very stable little trooper of a bleuebox chuffing along and a brand new Compaq in the process of "burning in" and getting ready to accept sites...

I have a lot of interest in RackShack.

No, I am not a rackshack stock owner, nor get paid by them, I am just one RS customer who was disgusted by those posting stuff bashing RS with no basis. It 's inconceivable that those bashers are not doing the bashing for their own benefit.

I am praising RS because
1) I want to have the truth known, especially to those less informed and less experienced
2) I want RS to stay in business, so I can continue to enjoy their service
