Hate to be rude, but why should everyone on this forum cater to every user whose interested in a company instead of that user doing a search? No offense, but since this question comes up like 4x a week, it's kind of inconsiderate to assume everyone has nothing better to do. Do the search, or even just look down the list, theres like 4 of them on the page im looking at (not a search page at that).

What good is good or bad without an explanation? Perhaps you should have posted a poll then.

Then do search. If you did, you should have already gotten your answer. Those who flamed (? maybe ?) you is because there have been so many (god **** ) threads about rackshack. I for one am sick of explaining about rackshack anymore nor reading.

So what? I should have to do it for him? Why should we have to do his work? If he wants information on a company, isn't it reasonable he search for it? Give me a break, people need to stop being so lazy, we're not all secretaries here to make their lives easier.

Matrix

porcupine,

It's not necessarily about being lazy. And you took the time to post twice to this thread so the secretary part may be fitting.

Is anyone honestly going to read all of the RackShack threads? I Know I'm not because there is way too many.

Plus I tried to read the whole thread about them buying this site and quit on thread #13

To be honest my opinion that I've formed from just looking at the RackShack threads briefly is that their customer support isn't any good.

Now with there being so many threads and with me being like most I'm not going to read all of them therefore that could be a disadvantage to RackShack. So therefore someone asks a simple question are they good or not and you jump all over them calling them lazy. I'm sure you don't have a lazy bone in you...lol.

I just asked to reply on this post Good or Bad. I saw you wrote about 6-7 lines and you are calling me lazy. I'm not asking you to do a search for me, I'm just asking people to write 1 word only if they have server in RS! Porcupine, take it easier, and I'm sorry if I distrubed you.

it's a open forum, i can post my views if i feel like it, someone who wont do a search on a company and instead takes it upon OTHER PEOPLE to do his research looks pretty damn lazy in my views, esp since he didn't make the post a voting thread to make it easier on others, merely easier on himself.

I still don't understand. What's the point of one word without an explanation? If I say bad, how's that going to help you? If you really want a one word answer, make a poll. My guess is the results will be like many people will vote yes and some people will vote no. That's still useless unless RackShack can provide you with everything you need or want.

With that attitude, I sure as HELL would discourage anyone from doing business with you.

I can see it now, if I were a customer that asked the wrong question about my site, my email would go unanswered.....

I mean gosh, and you people call urselves admins...who buys from you?????????????????

How much research you want to do before making a purchase is up to you. But in this industry it is most definitely a case of CAVEAT EMPTOR ("buyer beware"). I reckon I have read 80% of the threads ever posted here about RS since they started. Thats why I come here - to keep an eye out on what's going on.

Good or Bad is a relative term. Define good and bad first, only then you can get a proper answer.

For me this is Good:

FreeBSD + SCSI + unmetered 10MBPS + 24/7 telnet reboot + no tech support

:D

What place do you use for your hosting? I ask because it's damn slow. Is it rackshack?

Business must be slow for you with that attitude of yours.

Thats the most ignorant attempted put down i've ever heard.

We do not use rackshack, we have our own data center which is in the process of opening, but how would you know it's slow? The box that was doing our webhosting (our facility is not yet open) had something dropped on it's power supply last weekend, and has been dead since, so how would you know it's damn slow? Good try

I posted it in another thread, doubt many read it (i didn't make the thread, was just sobbing over it), it was storred at home in a locked closet with a vent fan (a semi-designed server closet), but i already knew that it had a touchy power supply, but ignored that because it was in it's locked closet..... Well it looks like someone was going through the closet (i'm not the only one with the key) and left it open, and from what i can gather (i still haven't been home to see the damage) the housecleaner got in there and either knocked something off a shelf, or a shelf off the pins onto the server, and that was that..... Girlfriend got home and inspected it, said it sounded like a weed wacker (shorting out), so i had to turn it off. All the pages will be restored from backup a few days prior, but won't be moved until we've got everything setup at the new facility.

Curiousity wont kill you this time, it's just a good thing i make consistent backups, because you never know whats going to happen, though more unlikely, this can happen even in the best data center, not just a locked closet (i've a friend who was seriously injured in a large companies data center when a worker tripped and dropped a 15" crt from a catwalk/scaffolding above)

Just goes to show i should have taught my girlfriend how to repair power supplies, or at least replace them (hahah yeah right, i know we're all trying to picture a average girl replacing a power supply). :D

It's unfortunate, but considering we're technically not even open, it wont kill us to have a week of downtime. Anyone whose signed up with us knows that we're not magical, things go wrong, and we deal with them the best we can. :) And any competetor who hasn't a similar story of some extent is probably full of it :D.

I agree that Rackshack is good- but only for people who are neither newbies nor extremely "elite" about their servers. I fall in the middle as well and have been dealing with Rackshack for over a year now. Sure there have been times- usually when I'm setting up a new server, when frustration levels have gotten high. But in general- they're VERY good. I'd recommend them to anyone moving from a shared environment to a a dedicated one.
