View Full Version : How to generate traffic to my website for free?
ratpax 08-16-2005, 06:24 PM ok, so I bought a domain name, created 50 pages of content (aim buddy icons and away messages), and it's setup on my webserver.
How do I get traffic to it now? I have submitted it to google.com/addurl.html and several other search engines, but I heard that doesn't work too good. A friend told me that I need to get link exchanges to get listed in search engines.
So I emailed 15 people out by hand related to aim buddy icons for link exchanges this morning. I came across this program, "Arelis" and I am thinking of buying it, as it is a good idea.
It searches through google, for the top 100 results related to my keywords, and gets those sites' urls and email addresses. Then it can send a email to all 100 sites it found in like 10 minutes, which it took me two hours to do 15 sites by hand. Is this program LEGAL to use or is this considered SPAMMING? They explictily state it is not considered spamming, so is that true?
regernatez 08-16-2005, 08:05 PM I would put it at the very center of crossing over to spam.
Your getting a program to send out 100+ emails to people.
It could well be called spam, but because your using the program to get people's link, this isn't spamming.
Really it's up to you. It's your business. Just don't come running when people give you a bad business rep for spamming ;) teehee
Anyhoo's good luck with it.
mouseattack 08-16-2005, 08:52 PM I am curious as well.
Advertise the old-fashioned way. Advertise on paper; whether it's a Business Journal, or a Bill-Board. Though it's not free, it IS effective.
If you don't have enough advertising cash, make calls by phone.
I also suggest that you come up with an effective marketing scheme (which I am struggling* w/ at the time being).
mouseattack 08-16-2005, 10:17 PM lol, you guys are incredible. You discondone emailing but you are advising CALLING people? lol, why not go door to door and hand out flyers?
lol, and I thought I was crazy...
We do that too.
LOL -- Just Kidding :)
What are your chances of getting a response with email!? RARE. With phone and local postings, you get more results.
Intl. service providers have other ways, such as WORD, and tons of ads, no T.V. yet.
Get a banner on TWC -- it's only 50k a day!!!!!
mouseattack 08-16-2005, 11:41 PM I HATE people who call advertising, personally I discard spam email like nothing, it doesn't get to me or anything. I NEVER bother taking the 30 seconds to report it because frankly I could care less.
But people who call my phone number, I don't like that because it actually "rings" my phone.
bigdavestar 08-17-2005, 01:35 AM E-mail marketing is very effective, this isn't spam...
Spam is when you create a list and e-mail people, this is just the same as going to the websites and contacting them through their address they have publicly displayed. If they didn't wish for anyone to contact them, they wouldn't publish it.
hostingoption 08-17-2005, 06:35 AM I think, google adword is best option to get traffice and reliable too
etechsupport2 08-17-2005, 06:37 AM You may also try few old methods like letterbox drops, local networking, newsletters, and press release. You should also try for self-promotion as face-to-face networking stills remains an effective tool for building relationships & trust at your local level.

That will work here. Thanks :)
bulldog1256 08-18-2005, 03:30 PM what's the site? I might want to work with you on an idea i have

Bull. You seem to think that because I put my email address on my site that invites you in to send me Viagra ads? In much the same way, by owning a house and therefore having an address, does that mean that I am welcoming junk mail? I think not.
Email marketing = unsolicited (usually) email = spam, with few exceptions.
