View Full Version : Value Added Services, like Enom

Hello,

I'd like to offer Value Added services, much like the ones Enom provides, like Email, DNS, ID Protect etc, however, I want to setup my own services, rather than use Enom's.

Any ideas of how to go about doing this? My server supports cPanel/WHM but I don't want to have everyone setup as a hosting account, I'd rather something a bit more custom or specialised.

Also, I'd like to give customers ns1.mydomain.com instead of the dns1.name-services.com etc. Is this possible?

Thanks if you can help!

That is a large task to start. Especially if you have just used those control panels before.

I would suggest by visiting www.amazon.com or www.bookpool.com and just start by buying a bunch of books and start reading up in the following subjects:
Linux, Bind, Qmail, Postfix, MyDNS, MySQL, and probably just a basic Networking book.

Once you understand a few of the open source solutions you will be able to pick the correct implementation for your requirements.

Ah ok, so there isn't any piece of software or application that could offer such functionality, rather than me creating something custom?

If so, I don't have the time or the money really, it's just all small scale. Could this be achieved with something like cPanel? I don't want people to have websites or cPanel control panels, I'd rather it be controlled all through the main control panel, which handles billing/support etc.

Well yes there is, but it is the exact same software that you are already using, Cpanel, Plesk, etc..

Are you looking for other alternatives? There are many out there like:
http://www.inter7.com/?page=sugarboxscreen

But it sounds like you just need a DNS / basic Mail integration tool (not the HTTP and FTP and database tools that comes with normal control panels).

Someone here might have a list of all of the control panels out there (free and the ones with support). Cpanel, Plesk, Ensim, and Hsphere are definately the most pupular.

You can always pay someone to develope something. www.guru.com is great for something like that.
