I need a host with a true 99.9% uptime to run my companies website, 400 email accounts, with php and mysql support. Any ideas?

I have used VenturesOnline.com, CyberWings.com, AffordableHost.com, and ValuableHost.com, all great companies in their own respective manner.

I must say that AffordableHost.com has by far the best up-time, and they have a package to meet your needs. They advertise 99.98+% uptime last 12 months, and I have been with them for about four months now, and have been extremely satisfied.

Are you looking forward for a dedicated server due to so high requirement for mail accounts? If yes, I suggest Superb.Net, and rackspace.com

QWK.net offers a 99.9% uptime gurantee.

Also, 100megswebhosting.com is an excellent company. I built a site that has been hosting with them since last August. Their advanced plan offers unlimited email, 10 GB of tranfer/month, and 1000 megs of disk space. $20/month. Their support is awsome. If you want you can check out the site I built was http://www.soundwords.ca/ and I am not in any way affiliated with them.

Just a comment here, claiming and having 99.9+% uptime are two totally separate things. Those that claim it (most companies) will compensate you for time down, but those who actually have it just aren't down, period.

Lots of places offer such a guarantee, even though a quick check shows that they're running on a dedicated server at a provider that doesn't themselves offer the same guarantee or a SLA.

In a way it's like the playing the transfer limit "numbers game." Hosts know that most customers don't monitor uptime, and even those that do won't bother to call them on a guarantee unless they are down significantly more than the stated guaranteed level. So it's "safe" for a host to make a guarantee even though they have no way of assuring that their uptime really will be at that level, or even any real control over whether it is or not.

So I'd assume by his working the ENYC is looking for a host that goes beyond just posting a guarantee but has clear SLA and can back it up. And I hope that ENYC realizes that he's looking for something a little beyond the requirements of the large majority of sites, and so should expect to pay a little more than a few dollars a month.

MediaTemple may be a perfect candidate!

That's a very good point. I'd be interested to know how a web host would go about proving what their uptime is.

The only data centers that I know of off the top of my head that have a 100% uptime SLA are Inflow. The only host that I can think of at an Inflow DC is Rackmy. Anyone know of any others?

Many will, however, provide a 99.9999% uptime SLA or similar, of which some can be passed on to the customer.
