I'm writing up my business plan and I was wondering where I can get some statistics on the web hosting industry. I've looked at IDC and other commercial research firms and the cost to get the market data is outrageous!
Can anyone help me with these ? Do you have any links that provide free but realiable data. Some examples I'm looking for is user demographics, web hosting market growth, user spending trends...etc.
Thanks...

The info at http://thewhir.com/marketwatch/tie040402.cfm about the hosting report looks to be more of an overview of co-location space availability across datacenters offering class a space. Is there anything that breaks down and details the overall number of hosts providing small business accounts (ie., who has market share, what the idustry standards are, etc.)?

it's hard to get free and reliable stats these days. i checked out IDC and they charge by the thousands for a 10-50 page report. One report in particular which would been of use to me is priced at $7500 for a 20 page report! thanks anyways guys...

Hi guys,
Hopefully I can help out here a bit.
IDC recently released some info on the server market:

And Europe's hosting market: [Includes IDC interview]

Managed services:

Specific hosting industry growth:

Garnter on the ASP sector:

But you're right, getting specific numbers without paying is difficult. You can, however, get a good idea regarding who leads what from Netcraft.. their free data is usually dated, but can be helpful.
