Hello Everyone !!!

I want to start a web hosting business and I have been surfing and finding for a super cool service but each time i decide to go on and buy a server I get to know from someone that this isnt as good as it should be.

Being really confused I have joined this forum in order to get some sort of help in selecting a hosting provider that provides it all

I would like to request the Hosting Guru's here to help me out selecting a server or two from a company that provides excellent after sale service and support

Please also let me know what are the other requirements for running a web hosting business successfully

Thanks
Hasan Saleem

You've just spammed this in two forums now!

Step 1) Have a read around these forums and find out for yourself!

Don't rush into things.

Moved to Running a Web Hosting Business.

Suggestions:

Read Running a Web Hosting Business Tutorials (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=94) and Dedicated Server Tutorials (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=69).

- Read this forum and the Dedicated Server Forum (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=2).

- After you have an idea of the basics, ask specific questions about running a web hosting business and about servers -- in the correct forums, and without repeating the same questions in different forums.

When you do your homework before asking questions, you'll get more helpful answers. :)

The website is being designed as yet and in the meantime I am collecting all possible information. I dont think there is no need of asking this question for answering my questions :-)

You need to decide if you are going to get
1. A reseller account
2. A VPS (virtual private server)
3. A Dedicated Server

Probably the best would be to get a reseller account because you don't have to manage the operating system and security.

Search for reviews on companies that offer resellers accounts. I would suggest WHM and CPANEL if you are going to resell the hosting.

Good Luck

Oshawa !!

I have sold 2 big reseller accounts (Linux-Cpanel) in 6 months and that is why I want to go for a dedicated server. I have read a lot in the forums. I had posted some questions in WHT but hasnt got any answers, what I got was a lot of suggestions to read the forums which I have been doing consistently

I have a couple of preliminary questions and I hope I would get an answer here

1:- How would you rate fastservers.net for buying a dedicated server?

2:- What is the line of duty at my end if I have bought the server and the server management services other than billing and sales?

I would rate them as excellent. I've had dealings with them for coming up 4 years now, and they're a good provider. I currently use their services in leasing a dedicated server just for my Dotable site + helpdesk + billing. I keep that out of my cabinet in LA for obvious reasons, and fastservers was an obvious choice.

I'm not sure what you're asking here. As the owner of your business, you are responsible for everything, and as such you delegate out certian functions. At the end of the day, the buck stops with you! :)

Aussie Bob !!

Being the owner of the business I can understand that Its all about me.

What's confusing me is the server. What if I have paid fastservers.net for the dedicated server and I have also paid for defcon management services, Do I still have to look for server issues like security, downtime or the server management team will be responsible for it?

Thanks

You can outsource the sysadmin responsibilities to them, but you're still ultimately responsible for the server, as it's part of your business. Even though they will monitor your server, you should still have 3rd party server monitoring (alertra.com) that sends you an SMS if your server is not responding.

I suggest that you also try RackSpace.com.

Also maybe you could start out with a VPS, learn some server management & then buy a server. :)
