View Full Version : failed backorders
expressions 08-12-2005, 07:08 PM I backordered a domain, which failed. I went to the domain name just before the drop was due and noticed that it already had a website on it again.
Surely even if they had obtained it as the domain was dropped they could not have got the domain name resolved in just a few hours??
Maybe im wrong, but it very frustrating.
canadian 08-12-2005, 10:17 PM hmm...
something like that happened to me too..
i registered a domain at regfly and i went to it and it was going to their template they have... this is about 30 mins after i reg'd it.
i dont know exactly how long it takes but i think its for the isp to update
forumrating 08-13-2005, 07:44 AM backordering is become difficult now, since there are lots of sites who already list you domains in deleted domain stage as wel as prior stages of domain deletion period
www.deleteddomains.com , www.pool.com
i tried one as well , but couldnt go through it
i am not sure backordering works that well.
expressions 08-13-2005, 11:08 AM I made the mistake of using Godaddy to try and back order it.
I noticed it was listed as being just about to be deleted.
I got notification that they would try to grab it at 10am MST (the words they used was powergrab or something to that effect), but the domain name was back up and running before this, so someone had obtained it before they even tried to get it.
To make it worse, they actually hosted/registered the domain name originally before it was dropped.
What a complete waste money.
forumrating 08-13-2005, 12:37 PM thats a problem, there is no refunds for back order :(
expressions 08-13-2005, 04:51 PM It isn't so much the money I spent on the back order, that is just annoying, it is more the fact that I am made to fight just to get the .com version of my company name. I already have a domain, but not the .com version.
The name itself is pretty good, but of limited use, I would not be surprized if it didn't become available forsale to me for a price.
forumrating 08-14-2005, 12:39 AM thts a pain, because when u hav other extensions visitors do go to .com name , i hav noticed many .net names, i myself check out .com domain few times..
dmaven 08-14-2005, 11:50 PM There are a handful of backorder companies worth anything now of days, pool , snapnames are both pretty good
expressions 08-15-2005, 03:49 PM After doing a bit of research, No Help from GoDaddy who seem to not have any real clue of what is going on. Strangely their support emails seem like a copy and paste.
The people who are down on the Whois as the register of the domain told me that the person who backorder it has 2 days left to confirm whether he still wants the domain or not and if he doesn't I who I have to contact. I still have A slim chance of getting It suppose.
Failing that I can try and negotiate with the new owner, although I tried to negotiate buying a domain name before and the owner wanted $14,000 for it. So I just got the hypenated version instead, which actually looks better :)
Bashar 08-15-2005, 04:56 PM domains get resolve within hrs of registering these days, thanks to Verisign's Rapid DNS
forumrating 08-15-2005, 06:55 PM 14k $ is huge, i suppose that name shd be a good brand then , any ways hope for the best , try and get ur name
expressions 08-16-2005, 03:58 PM The domain I wanted just became available so I bought it manually :)
Bashar 08-16-2005, 06:44 PM great, you didnt waste high backorder fee instead ;)
expressions 08-16-2005, 06:55 PM Even though it was available to buy, Godaddy's backorder services didn't pick this up, so I just obtained it manually instead. Didnt want to risk losing it for the sake of a few dollars more.
Bashar 08-16-2005, 09:57 PM it was backordered at godaddy and u were able to pick it up manually?!
expressions 08-17-2005, 01:29 AM yes, I backordered it at godaddy and then picked it up manually.
It seems that because GoDaddy only check change in status every 12 hours, their backorder service had not realised it had become available again and I didn't want to risk someone else getting it as I have waited a year to get hold of it.
Bashar 08-17-2005, 06:05 AM oh, GD BO service seems going down with time!!
expressions 08-17-2005, 09:03 AM Although I am happy I got the domain name I wanted - I am also a bit annoyed that I could have lost out on it because they didn't grab it when it was available.
It isn't the best name in the world, but I have the .co.uk one and wanted the .com version.
They are investigating the matter for me?? I wonder if I will get a refund :D
Bashar 08-17-2005, 11:16 AM you registered it at godaddy manually or another registrar?
it would be real shame for them if you did manually on GD :dgrin:
expressions 08-17-2005, 11:18 AM I registered it Manually on GD
Bashar 08-17-2005, 11:21 AM  man this gonna be fun, can't imagine what their reply is going to be.
i'm almost positive they are going to refund you just to avoid your angry fingers from shooting them with an angry email
expressions 08-17-2005, 11:30 AM I guess it makes their backordering system look next to useless that I could manually order a domain with them that I had backordered with them.
forumrating 08-17-2005, 12:39 PM thts very strange i wonder wat kind of back ordering and domain catching tools they are using, any ways im sure u should get the refund as said by bashar :)
expressions 08-17-2005, 02:17 PM I got an email back saying thank you for letting them know and they will investigate it?? whatever that means.
I will keep you informed :)
expressions 08-18-2005, 01:59 PM No reply or information today, perhaps they are still investigating??
Bashar 08-29-2005, 03:32 PM still investigating ?!
expressions 08-29-2005, 03:43 PM They seem to be ignoring me at the moment, perhaps I will phone them up and ask?
Dave Zan 08-29-2005, 06:33 PM If they don't refund you, you know what to do. ;)
