Oh great news the data centre finally has been given a new name! LOL!

I know for a fact that this data centre has some high quality bandwidth and i will be co locating there very soon...

Why do you ask?

Simple in the US what does a good dedicated server cost you, with good support high quality bandwith. between 200-370 USD for around 200 GIG bandwidth. not including setup fees etc.

a little over 100 AUD you can co lo a server or for a 100 + more go dedicated. Yeah the bandwidth is not anything special probably getting 1 gig free with your deal...

I am dreaming that all people that have a dedicated server in the states are reading this in SHOCK... YES ONE GIG FREE.

But this in inbound most of the time outbound is free. Everyone knows that outbound is used more than inbound...

The way i figured it with the current business sites im hosting with a server i already own i would probably still make 400% profit using 2 gigs of Inbound...

I am in no way affilated with this DC. its got an excellent reputation around and in the companies i work for...

enet21 are the people that have most dealings with the dc last time i checked.

The best thing about it... ITS Virually down the road from our studio so if anything goes wrong its only a walk away ( Drive actually im getting lazy in my old age haha):stickout

Thanks i hope all goes well with them i will keep everyone posted!

Be very careful with that assumption mate, because it is not always going to be the case. In our experiences with local hosting, some domains will generate much more incoming data than outgoing, when their 100MB outgoing web traffic web site brings in a GB of email (personal mail, business mail, mailinglist subscriptions, etc etc). Plus if you provide SMTP, don't forget everything they send gets metered (incoming) as well. Then there's developers who re-upload or Frontpage publish their entire 30MB sites, over and over after small changes.

You'll soon see the back of that 1GB of free incoming data. If you haven't factored in that each additional incoming MB is going to cost you 15c, then you could *very* quickly come unstuck. This is usually done with very small outgoing limits in vitual plans unless you have the means to meter and charge for incoming data *per domain*. So all of a sudden, you're looking at charging $20/mth for 200MB of outgoing data (close enough to the Aussie average, yes?), hoping that the incoming/outgoing ratio covers you, and that's when folks down here say "bugger it, for that price I might as well wear the 300ms delay and host offshore".

The best thing down here is the unmetered outgoing data. Local hosts can offer software developers and distributors a few MB of space to upload (once) their files to, and a very healthy outgoing limit.

Of course...I could be overlooking something. If anyone knows of a better working model for AU hosting I'd be interested in reading their views.

Cheers

Gary

Good bunch of lads. I don't know of anyone else with a better offer. We have one box there. I would have liked to have gotten more, but because of the above it's not likely just yet. We've found a few other options for now, for some private boxes we manage. But we'll touch base with DSA again soon and see what the future holds there. I know of some possible plans they have, which we hope to get in on.

Cheers

G,day,

I will be moving current Aussie customers that i have monitored for a while and have a good assumption what they would pull..

I know i cant base it on assumption due to the fact that anything can happen but most of these sites are people we have already created website for and the pricing structure for hosting is diffrent from what can be found on our main website.

Some corporate solutions we have going at the moment are charged per meg. And we dont even bulk buy the space yet to earn a better money % of the transfer.

enet21.com.au have been more that helpful everytime i have called and you actually feel good about having a server there because you feel like its in good hands and the deals/prices they come up with are very good to!

Editor give enet21.com.au a ring 02 9887 4800 see what they can do for you. i would go out of my way to suggest them there so good to me.

Um and maybe another thing i can do for the corp clients if we ever have the time is a local upload on the network this is something i never thought of even though its so obvious....

Nice to have the local competition offering good prices for hosting unlike our head of state hosts "WEBCENTRAL"

Kind regards,

We've done alright with DSA mate. Some other boxes we've got a smaller provider.

Yes, if you can get access to your box you'd do well to offer as local upload. Something we can't do with anyone in Sydney. :-)

And yes, I believe we all have the same ultimate aim down here (ref webcentral). :-)

Cheers

Bandwidth costs in Australia are so expensive then anyone with a site that does any sort of volume hosts overseas. The exception is sites that for some reason HAVE to hosted in Australia for legal reasons or people with long pockets.

That's not necessarily true. There are ways to host cost effectively down here.

I am a happy consumer of the products enet21 offers...

Great service and the lot, everyone gets my point how exceptional this company is.

And also there are ways for australian hosts / hosting localy to make plenty of money through Australian customers, you just have to create and excellent plan of attacking the market and to learn to use resource right!
