View Full Version : Recommendations for a small webdesigner

People always seem bolder and willing to make new initiatives in and around New Year's.

One of my resolutions is to increase the level of professionalism of my website design work. This is still on a part time basis, but my target range is to have between 5 and 15 clients a year.

Reselling web services is one service that I want to add.

With most of my current sites I use CWI Services (see http://www.cwiservices.com/virtual.asp) and am satisfied with their level of services. Basically, they are an NT host, 25 megs, 10 emails, Active Server Pages, Front Page extensions, cgi-bin, ftp, real audio and real video, etc, with a price range of $10 to $35 per month.

Their reseller program, however, is not very realistic. My major complaint is that the reseller has to do every single site management task. The client has ftp access, but any of the other things that you would find on a standard control panel can only be done by the reseller.

Since this is a part time business, I am not able or interested in providing 24 hour turn around service. If my clients can't log in and set up a new email account on their own, I'll be willing to do that, however I should have a choice.

This is a long way to get to my questions, but

1) Can you recommend or suggest a reseller that's roughly equivalent to the level of services provided by Cyber World, but delegates greater control to the end user?

2) Do you know of other resources that would help me in setting up shop?

Thanks.

If you have other domains hosted, then you are probably just gettig a pointer to a subdirectory of yor main domain (and accout). You want to look for a host that will set up the resold accounts as full accounts with their own CP, etc.

Most hosts do this, but I'm not sure you like/want the discounted account type plans. Usually a bit more expensive.

Hello
Head over to:
http://www.centralinfo.net/

I took aout an account with them when I had to start turning down business because I didn't do Windows hosting.

You pay a $10 per month admin fee and then you get all their plans at half price. The 50MB NT plan works out at $7.50 per month.

There is a control panel that you can incorporate into the frames of your site so that users can control everything themselves.

Its a bit difficult to get it all set up, but it works like a dream once you have everything the way you want it and support is always very fast.

It figures that the same day that I would open my mouth and complain about something that they will change it -- Cyber World has upgraded their support site and will have a new reseller service area by next week. So I am going to sit tight for a while before switching.

Thanks for the tip on centralinfo.net. I will check it out while I am waiting.
