Hi there

I run a cheap web hosting service in Lithuania and have ~1500 clients now. Now I want to increase sales and I'm thinking of possibility to run a free web hosting service locally.

What do you think about using ClientExec + cPanel for this service? No cgi, php and mysql. I'm afraid that cPanel can crash due to large amount of customers (3000+). What do you think?

I'm considering cPanel and ClientExec as I use them for paid hosting and it'll be much easier for customer (for us as well) to upgrade.

What also could you suggest to take a look at when starting such service?

Thank you for your answers.

Cpanel is not really ment for free hosting.. If we used CPanel for our free hosting, we would need roughly 75-100 servers (with 1,000-2,000 members per machine). With a custom made solution we run with 15-10 times less machines.

Your best bet is to pay to have a custom solution made. Ours has been developed over the past decade and at this point cotains custom apache modules as well as RedHat modifications that increase effeciency by removing all the things that are not needed and optimizing those that are.
