Hi,

for last two weeks I was looking for reliable provider which offers virtual accounts with >50Gb bandwidth. I was considering a couple of companies which were higly recommended here. I did not encounter anything bad about these companies, but some recent posts about other hosts where customer's sites were down for 24 and more hours :uhh:, made me to come to conclusion that it would be much cheaper for me to pay $140 instead of $60, but to have real 99,9% uptime instead of 80, 90 or even 99% uptime. 24 hrs of outage could cost me several hundreds dollars. I have decised to go to big, reliable and reputed provider. For now I have stopped at Verio.

And I'd like to ask, is there in the market an even more authoritative hosting provider than Verio? In other words what provider is usually called as an industry leader?

Thanks.

You might look into what OLM offers for your needs. They are well established, one of the older companies. You don't see them out on the forums, but they are a solid company. I am not sure about who to mention, as 50gb is an awfull lot for most companies that I have seen around.

Verio may be the most popular right now, but even they don't have 100% uptime. But I would look to them and OLM for your needs.

Something that you may not know...
If you can find a good, reliable hosting company, many are willing to give you a 100% uptime guarantee... They will go to great lengths to keep your site up with backup servers and everything. You will have to pay a hefty price for this though.
Another good choice for you may be a dedicated server.

Thanks for advises. I have checked OLM, but they are offering virtual accounts with maximum 15 Gb of traffic.

TheException, I am thinking about dedicated server, but managed server at reliable hoster with bandwidth that I need costs beyond $300. Up to that moment this is excessive price for me. I have no experience in managing servers and I don't know is it reasonably for me to sign-up to unmanaged server, for example at RackShack?

Well... That's something that would require some thought...
There are a lot of people on WHT that would be willing to help you manage your server, from doing it for free or for an account on your server, to the guys that will want money... The only problem is... can you trust them? If you can find somebody that you feel you can trust then you could probably get them to manage your server for under $100 a month, and maybe a hosting account on the server.... Maybe if you got some references from the person etc...

As far as managing a server goes... there isn't a _lot_ to do once everything is setup... The big thing is if you run into problems, or if a new feature is needed. Problems could include people attacking your server, unexpected system crashes (which are very rare) or even misuse. You have full access to it so it is easy to start playing with it and cause a problem without realizing it.

I hope some of this helps... it doesn't look like you are faced with the easiest of all decisions...

On a sife note... can you let me in on your secrets? I would like to be able to make hundred of dollars per day... Then we could share a managed server and split the cost :)
