View Full Version : MX Records / Domain Pointing

I have somewhat of a loaded question.

For starters, here is the setup

MySite.com
MySite.net
MySite.org

I'm going to have MySiteName.com on one account. Of course this is possible. 'Nuff said.

But I want to have MySiteName.net and MySiteName.org utilize one single web hosting account.

MySiteName.net is going to be the main site on record with the hosting company and will be used for free e-mail for the MySiteName.com site, and will also run either UBB, Ikonboard or vBulletin. That will be the only thing that this site will be used for. So which host would be ideal for this? And take changing the MX records into consideration for the free e-mail part. Might be used for storage as well for the .COM site, but who knows. The first two are the main priority.

Now, I want to use MySiteName.org for company/business related stuff with regards to MySite.com and MySite.net. One of the things I wish to use MySiteName.org for is an ONLINE INTRANET that will be password protected that will be for use amongst the staff of MySiteName.com. Can I point MySiteName.org to a directory (/mysitenameorg) using some sort of stealth redirection but still able to utilize password protection per individual on the intranet?

Also, will it be possible to point to more than one place ... For example:
MySiteName.org >Goes2> MySiteName.net
MySiteName.org/playboy >Goes2> MySitename.net/playboy
MySiteName.org/hustler >Goes2> MySiteName.net/hustler
MySiteName.org/juggs >Goes2> MySiteName.net/juggs

Once all of this is answered, what would be the ideal host for something like this? I was looking at either Site5 or LiquidWeb or possibly Blue Domino for the NET/ORG sites while the COM site is being hosted on CommuniTech.Net.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff, there's been a few posts about multiple domain hosting (which is essentially what you want, with the added requirement of MX record changes). Take a look at some of the suggestions below, adn see if anything works for you.

You can passprotect a directory so long as you can get whatever domain you want to go to that directory (your example is a bit much to read, heh).

Any VDI host can do what you just asked, that's very simple actually.

Carlos,

Care the reccmd. a good VDI host? I'm looking to spend no more than $30 p/month on this particular account since I won't require that much space (I figure 200MB/300MB at the MOST) and bandwidth surely no more than 25GB per month IF THAT.
