I just downloaded and installed IE 5.5 and it is not accepting cookies! I checked and it is set to accept. I tried to reinstall it but I get the same results. Any suggestions would be helpful.

You need to leave a glass of milk with them, else IE 5.5 won't accept them.

Thats where I went wrong! I thought that only applied to Santa. Silly me!

Try this:

- Close *all* programs (especially Outlook Express)
- Open the browser to any URL that doesn't use cookies
- Clear the History
- Clear the Cache, including local content
- Close the browser
- Reboot

Sometimes that'll shake it free.

Everytime I totally close out IE 5.5, or any version of IE for that matter I get this error message:

I tried quite a few things. I even got to the point where I just put the damn restore disks in and wiped it clean. I called Compaq, but the have been no help. I even downloaded NS 6.0, it looks neat but slow as shi*. But at least it dosen`t give me any problems.

Ouch... kernel32.dll is a big 'un in the ops department.

I don't give systems advice, since some lunatics try to sue you when they screw it up.

However, if it were my system, this is what I'd do.

I'd first restore kernel32.dll from the CD.

I would then remove all the cab and other files in folder c:/Windows Update Setup Files.

Then I would force a fresh download of IE5.5 via Netscape.

This'll almost always get you out of this.

What's happening here is a guessing game, but you can figure that either kernel32.dll is corrupt or not registered properly; or that IE5 came in corrupt or did not register correctly.

I think etLux said it all. Do what he says and you *should* be fine! :)

I forgot to mention that one must also hold a large sledge hammer in a threatening pose whilst performing the procedure above.

Otherwise, it doesn't work.

O yea, the good old sledge hammer :) Never sit with the window open with out it. The window is like a gateway to numerous little bugs and blue sreens, which only the sledge hammer can get rid off.

I think I`ll just use the sledge to impose some swiftt justice to this beast!

Kunal is absolutely right about a couple of things, here.

Computers should never be let near Windows... bugs may fly in...
